John Bickar of Palo Alto shoots 2663

Post by albertrichard123 on Wed Sep 05, 2018 11:38 am

First topic message reminder :

John Bickar a High Master from Palo Alto CA set a new personal best of 2663 at the Sunnyvale Rifle and Pistol club just south of San Francisco,  at this weeks labor day match. Congratulations John,you did what we all want ,but seldom or never do,

John does this with match grade ammo loaded on his Star Universal press, using Nosler jacketed bullets at 50 yards and  the 160 grain lead  swc for the short line.

Come clean John, is this due to talent, premium pistols and the Star ammo or are you using a little "black magic?

Only 129. I mean, how is that even possible? The 10-ring is only like 2 inches wide!
I can see why they weren't included in the title, then. Smile

Nice Shooting, John!!

I think it's in the Commercial Row because, as masters and high masters say, you can buy points...oh no, wait, it's not what they say...

You can buy points if you can hire John to shoot for you.

November? You're range master the rest of the season! Didn't you get the memo?

Over the course of setting up the range, coordinating the setup crew, checking folks in, overseeing finances, orienting the range master, shooting a 2663, running the "stat office", coordinating the cleanup crew, running the awards ceremony, and drinking beer, a guy apparently covers a lot of ground.

Match directors and volunteers make this sport run and work. They deserve the most praise and respect in this sport. If not for them we wouldn't have matches or at least good matches that bring shooters back time and time again. Well done Bickar not just on your shooting accomplishment but taking command and making that event roll on. Keep on keeping on.

John B; Whatever gizmo you are using, - it is lying to you.  Taking to account that average step of the male in US is about three feet, number of steps recorded is about 55,200 feed.  That's about 10 miles versus 6.8 recorded......, unless you had toooooo much of beer! lol!

Oh! Two subjects that I know a lot about!

  1. Drinking beer. I have a lot of experience in that realm. So you could be right. However;
  2. The length of my stride. In the days of my youth, I was a caddy. It was a job skill to be able to step out distances of up to 50 yards to within +/- 2 yards of accuracy, and I got pretty good at it. So much so that I can step off the distance from the firing line to the 25 yard line to within a half-step of accuracy, every time. However, that measured stride is much longer than my normal walking stride, so I can tell you definitively that the average step of this 5'11" US male is much less than 3'. It is a stretch to get to 3'. So the 1.95' per normal step sounds about right.

Now I'll return to my third area of expertise: listening to (or trying to ignore) a screaming 3-year-old who refuses to go to sleep.
