WTB Model 41 Right Hand Herrett's Target Automatic Stocks

Post by Aprilian on Tue Oct 23, 2018 10:03 pm

I have a set that are 1/2" too big for my hand and I'm looking for a medium size set.   I'd prefer the front to back not to be totally encased in wood,  for a less full grip.   I don't like the National model with the adjustable palm shelf, they are too big for my gun box.

My 1911 Herrett's Automatics are perfect and as much as I'd like to have matching set for the 41. I didn't have great luck with Herrett's custom builder's effort for my Browning couple years ago. They also don't make them quite like the older model's shape at the palm flare.  I know about Andrew's 3d printing as an option to match them exactly.

My 1911 is 2" from bottom of trigger guard to beginning of wooden flare.  The right side grip is  2 1/8" when measured from the furthest rear section of the palm swell to the front of the front strap (perpendicular).  My hand (flat) measures 3 1/4" across my knuckles.

Other brands of grips might be interesting, but I do love the fit of a correct size Herrett's.

I have a set that was custom built for my hand. Since my hand is not huge, I'm assuming my set is "medium." $60 shipped. I also have a set for 1911 that seem to be the same size. Same price.

Thanks!  PM sent.

I wasn't sure from your post whether they were both custom or if the 1911 was an off the shelf model.

The 1911's weren't custom but seem to be virtually identical in size. For what it is worth, I don't see much that is really custom -- no finger grooves, etc. I liked the grips but went back to plain ones for both guns.

Joe's were the National model with the movable palm shelf.   Anyone got some like this?

I’d be interested in a set of these for a 1911 also. The ones without the adjustable shelf

I love the Automatics on my 41. They will still make a set for you custom fitted to your hand. Order now and you might have them by Christmas.

Have you seen the new offerings out of Thailand? They look like a combination of Sig 1911 grips and Herrett Automatics. The price is low enough it wouldn't break the bank to try them. My hand probably wouldn't fit but they look great for a medium hand.

You mentioned other brands of grips might work. Since Bullseye.gear is back in business you can check out the Vitarbo grips. I notice they have a set of medium in stock.

Thanks Len.  Those Thai ones don’t look any different from the stock grips.  I put the OEM ones back on and will try them in the morning.  Vitarbos look great, but I’m not sure I want to go full ergonomic grip.  I found myself relaxing the grip as I finished the trigger pull on my 1911 with rink grips.

Your probably right about those Thai grips. They looked like they had a lot more flair then the new factory grips but they do look pretty close to the older ones. I actually had a set of Xlg Vitarbo's at one time. Beautiful, but not a chance at all of them fitting. I traded them for a box (1000) of 200gr bullets and we were both happy.

Ebay to the rescue.   Old vs new (slightly small).

At least I can take material out.  Strange thing is that both sets of Herrett's have about 5/16" of wood lower than the trigger guard.   That seems to tip my grip to more "European" than 1911 and tips the trigger finger more than necessary.   I'll be taking some of that out to help with fit and letting my finger be at a more natural angle.  You can see the extra material in this shot.
