How not to buy a 45 for Bullseye competition

I have a tendancy to go whole hog when I do something. So when my brother inlaw got me involved in Bullseye I wanted to go to Camp Perry some day. I read the Encyclopedia of Bullseye pistol website everyday. So I did a lot of research and bought my ParaUSA GI 1911. The GI 1911 is a good gun to own, very accurate out of the box. Sadly the GI 1911 is not a good gun to customize for Bullseye.

So i started with a trigger job from the gunsmith at my local range. it worked out quite well. The gunsmith suggested I buy a new trigger from ParaUSA. Thats when I learned that all 1911 clones were not alike. So when I saved enough for a new match barrel and bushing I went to PARAUSA to purchase them. The barrel said that it was for single stack PARA 1911's.

I went to a Bullseye gunsmith to install the new match barrel and bushing. He did his best but I found out later that the barrel was not meant to be installed on a GI 1911. I sent the gun back to the gunsmith a couple of times do to failure to feed issues. I've had nothing but trouble with the gun ever since. So I called Para and they said that installing a Para barrel voided the warrenty. They just are not like other companies like Springfield who expect you to customize your 1911.

To make a long story shorter I sent the gun to Triangle Shooting sports down in Texas. They are installing a new match barrel and bushing!

I hope everything works out for you. Para has a less than stellar reputation for warranty, accuracy and function. If the Para continues to give you problems I have a Springfield Range Officer NIB for sale.

I have to thank the folks at Triangle Shooting sports for fixing my 45. It now cycles any ammo I try and is much more accurate. They put in a Kart barrel and bushing and slicked up the trigger for free. Nice folks. The owner is Benny Hill a top 100 pistolsmith. I'm very happy with the results.

My carry gun is a Para LDA .45 with 3 1/2" barrel. It has been great for this dedicated purpose and is very accurate and reliable. I can't say I've
EVER seen a Para firearm on the line. That SHOULD indicate they are not
the best choice for Bullseye competition.

Friend, I did much the same thing when I started out. I had the opinion, "Hah. Who needs to spend a mint on a bullseye gun? These guys are going about it wrong!"

After shooting a few matches, I got an old, busted up, rattletrap Springfield Armory GI model and sent it to Ed Masaki to ake into a hardball gun. To say that it was money well spent is the understatement of the year.

When I started outshooting my cobbled together wad gun, I sent a new GI model to Ed to turn into a wadcuter gun. The very first match I shot with it, I shot clean scores for the first time.

It is money well spent, believe me.
