Air Pistol For Bullseye Practice? Empty Air Pistol For Bullseye Practice?

Post by Guest 5/5/2013, 6:24 pm

Since 22 ammo is almost impossible to find I was wondering if any of you have experience training with air pistols.....and how that worked out for you. Thanks,

Has helped my slow fire. Good for building the shot routing and trigger control.
Basically, good for the mental side of things especially if you shoot the 60 shot matches. 60 shots of slow fire in a time limit is draining, especially the last 20.

Thanks. Any recommendations? I know 22 and 45 but not a clue on air pistols.

I would say start with the IZH-46 pneumatic.
Very accurate pistol for the money.
Compressed air guns are $$$. I decided that was the way I wanted to go and looked for several months and found a used Feinwerkbau P-34.
It's going to be hard to get into compressed air for < $1000 with all the accessories but the IZH you should be able to get for < $400.
Keep an eye on Target Talk, they come up there frequently or Pyramid Air I think sells them new.
Another option is the new Benelli Kite. They are a pretty reasonable compressed gun. Larry's sells them or try Target Talk.

I use the Beeman P1 (very similar to the .45 1911) with slab grips and iron sights. You can probably find one for $250-350.00 range. Very accurate @33 feet for a spring piston air pistol.

Daisy 747 is a good one too, less than 200.00 new.

I have a Weihrauch HW 75 with an UltraDot.
The grip angle and grips are similar to my 1911's - Marvel and wadgun.
The trigger is adjustable and I find it an excellent short roll. And you can dry fire it.
The accuracy is superb - at 25 feet I can keep 5 shots under a dime.
I shoot into a putty (duct seal) pellet trap using a TQ-6 25 ft slow fire pistol target.
The gun is a bit pricey but I find it a great simulation for my bullseye guns.

I have a Smith and Wesson Model 79G CO2 pistol that was given to my by my grandfather. It was one of the first guns I ever shot. I've been tempted to get it out and see what it can do. I remember it being very accurate.

The Beeman P1 is an excellent choice. A Beeman P1 and an HW45 is the same gun just cheaper without the name Beeman on it. Both are made by Weihrauch. The P1 is a powerful spring piston gun with a good trigger and excellent accuracy. They are however difficult to shoot well because of the spring piston and are very hold sensitive and require good follow thru. Two good things to learn for bullseye shooting! I bellieve the HW45 and Hw75 are the same basic gun except the 75 is a single stroke pnumatic which doesn't have the recoil of the spring piston.

Air Pistol For Bullseye Practice? Empty 78G

I have one of those (actually mine is a 78G) that I bought 40 years ago. It hasn't been shot in at least 25 years and I am afraid to do it, figuring that the seal(s?) are dried out and I will ruin it.

Having just begun my foray into Bullseye shooting a month ago, I would like to get that 78G out and use it for practice.
I know(?) that it wasn't made in the S&W factory, haven't seen anything remotely similar since they stopped making them. Does anyone know who could go through it and make it functionable again or should I just 'take it out and try it'?

Thanks.

I wouldn't shoot it without it being gone through. The problem is that getting it in shape may very well be more than it is worth. I would give Pilkington a call. Their website is www.pilkguns.com If they can't fix it, they should be able to give you a good lead. Pilkington's is my first choice for anything air gun and has been for years.

+1 for the Daisy 747 for shot routine and trigger control. Single shot slow fire routine. VERY cost effective and you can adapt most grips to it with a little work.

I have sent off an inquiry to them, thank you. Of course I had to look through 20 pages of used gun classifieds while I was there. Fortunately everything that I thought that I 'had to have' was already sold. As a new to competition (as opposed to having the gun go bang and perhaps knock over a tin can) pistol shooter.... I need 'everything'. I have (unfortunately) had the chance to try a Styer LP50, but one of those will have to wait until suitable cartridge guns have been acquired. So if it can be reasonably resurrected the old S&W would cover 'home practice' for now.

Thanks again, no doubt I will have more questions.
