.45 HB (230) load question Empty .45 HB (230) load question

I am working on developing my hardball load for EIC and yesterday I used my chrono to assist me in refining an accurate load for the longline. It was cloudy and about 55 degrees here and I started with 4.6 grains of BE behind a Zero 230 FMJ in SL case with Win LP primer. I seat my rounds to 1.255-1.260 and crimp to .469. It took 5.2 grains of BE to finally get me up to 820 fps. I was surprised b/c most of what I have read about HB loads with BE powder, the max load usually is around 4.8 grains. Just wondered if anyone else has had a similar experience with your HB loads? Thanks!

Check your crimp, i crimp to .467 -.468 that would up your pressure slightly and your fps. Most run around 4.6-4.8 BE with that bullet or the sierra 230's with very good accuracy. The best ransomed 230 hb load i found was 5.0 gr of V-320. just over a inch at 50yds using the sierra 230, wlp, sl case .467 crimp.

If you can find a load that will hold the black at 50, that will be good enough to get you points. Leg matches are won at the 25 yard line.

The P100 badge needs more accuracy, but for Leg matches focus on the short line.
