Reloading Newbie Question

Been shooting and relaoding for HP Rifle for many years - just getting into Bullseye and pistol this year.

Starting my pistol adventure with a 9mm.

Basic question-  do you have a different load for 25 yds v. 50 yds???

Some shoot different some do not. Most dont shoot 9mm for bullseye at all as it can only be used for the  center fire section of the 2700 and Its hard to get good accuracy out of factory 9mms at 50 yards. Out of a match grade barrel, there are a few loads using a 115 fmj that are accurate at 50 yds, at 25yds a accurate gun will shoot factory ammo ok.

Yes,  I use different loads at the fifty and the twenty five yard line, mostly because I use cheaper bullets at the 25.   
   However I am shooting a KKM barrel with a very slow twist rate.  

Finding the right ammo/loads for your gun at different distances will be trial and error.

Why shoot two loads?  If it shoots well at 50 yrds it will shoot well at 25.

Absolutely true, but for those of us who are not supported shooters,  if we can save ten bucks a match, shooting cheaper bullets at the short line, we can use that money on gas to get to the next match.   

Also if you are an older shooter,  lighter loads at the short line help save your wrist, elbow, and shoulder.

I've always shot lead, H&G#68's.  Have not been "young" for quite a while.  It does not need to be a hot load to shoot at 50 yds.  It does require a well made bullet and good reloading skills.  As far as support I even save my 22 brass and sell it to the scrap yard.

 All true, with a 45 ACP.  


Not true with 9MM where lead at the fifty yard line does not yield good results.

yes the question posted was about 9mm, Of the very few top shooters ive seen shooting a 9mm, all shoot FMJ at 50 yds

.452 H&G #68's wont fit in the OP's 9mm gun.

I haven't been able to figure out a lead 9mm load that works well at 50 yards.
