Cast Bullets Empty Cast Bullets

Post by Hornet1 11/23/2013, 11:45 am

About time for me to purchase some more bullets.  Looking at a few mfg's 200lswc offerings.  Does anyone have any experience with Crown Bullets out of Florida? How about GT bullets from Georgia? GT bullets has a 200lswc with a flat base which from what I have read is really good for 50yd accuracy. The last 2 are Falcon Bullets and Hotshot bullets.  If you have used any of these and have any opinion please respond.  By the way, all of these have a website.
  Thanks,

Mac

I've always been impressed with the performance of the Magnus bullets...

I've shot several "no name" 200gr LSWC bullets from different casters after shooting only ZERO flat base bullets.  I am still shooting mid 90s at the 50 yard line even with the beveled base generic bullets.  I don't think there is any real need to seek out exotic lead.  Shoot what you can find.

I prefer, in order:
Zero 200gn swaged L-SWC
Precision Bullets 200gn swaged moly-koted L-SWC
13-15 BHN mastercastbullets.com 200gn cast L-SWC
PowderVally, at least previously this week, had the Zero bullets in stock.

Penn are supposed to be good.  Guys around here shoot Laser Cast and Missouri Bullet Co and like them.

Penn Bullets 200 gr LSWC in target grade shoot very well for me. Very consistent for a cast bullet.  Talk to Bob Palermo at Penn, he's been casting bullets for a long time.

I have shot Mastercast, Precision Cast, High Tech, Flightline, Magnus, and some others I can't remember I'm sure. I had decent luck with all except some Flightline (which I hear they are out of business anyway??). However if I had to chose just one, it would be Penn and it would not take a lot of thinking about it.

Terry Labbe who owns Magnus is a shooter and a high master, he shot a 2650+ using his 200 gr, model 802s at LL and his 185 button nose at the SL, his loads are published in the sticky at the top of the ammo topic. I have tested his 200s several times and all produced sub 2'' groups at 50 yards off the bench.

All comments are about BUYING bullets.  What ever happened to casting one's own.  Advantages are large savings over store bought projectiles and with a little practice and a good mold, bullets that are more accurate than the mass produced bullets.  In a few years the cost of equipment, amortized over time, will seem negligible.   John

I do not have the time to shoot as much as I should let alone cast.  In a couple years I might join the old phooter ranks.

Hi John,
Because I've learned so much from you and am now casting very good bullets..............could you, when time permits, post the best practice of "casting your own"? I Know we would all benefit!!!
Thanks for your help & encouragement  in the past,

I hope its not agenst the forms policy but jump on over to the Castboolets web site. Lots of great reading over there, and some super info for all those looking to load, cast, or shoot lead bullets.
