Smiths Accepting Work? Empty Smiths Accepting Work?

Post by Chris.P.Chicken 1/17/2014, 6:37 pm

Hello, I'm starting to amass components to build a hardball gun for my return to the states this summer. Most of the gunsmiths referenced on this forum are listing lead times on their websites for anywhere from 6 months plus up to 3 or 4 years.

I'm not looking to have an entire gun built, just looking for services I feel are a bit over my comfort level like fitting a barrel and bushing to a slide.

Are there any known smiths that will be accepting work in the next few months?

Thanks in advance!

You may want to try Jon Eulette, former AMU 2650 plus shooter in Banning, CA.  Your request is right up his alley.  He is quite capable and really specializes in barrel to slide fit.  951-330-0463.  What you need does not appear to be an FFL issue, so for the $6.00 Flat Rate box, it can get to him and back for cheap despite you being quite far away.

Chris, unless you're planning on fitting the bottom lugs you're going to have to send him your slide and receiver along with the barrel and bushing.  So it would require a registered service or going to your local FFL and have them ship the parts.

I highly recommend Jon Eulette. Outstanding work and great turnaround time.

Depending on where you are headed stateside, you might want to give Jim Garthwaite in PA a call. He did some work for me last year and was very reasonable and turnaround time was about four months.  Call as Jim can be a little slow returning emails.

If you are in South Carolina,  Dave Salyer would be both close and good.    He builds great guns, at a reasonable price.  And he is fast, if the parts are all available.    Kate

+1 on Dave Salyer, he has built a gun for me and it shoots 1.2" at 50 yards.

I know Jon Eulette and KC Crawford and would not hesitate to send a gun to them, but have not experienced their work firsthand yet (sorry guys!).

It is Charleston, SC. I don't mind shipping the gun out though, if needed. Thanks again for the information.

I have spoken to Jon already as well as done some google-ing on him. I will look into the others as well. Thanks again!

The reason I asked was Dave Salyer  is who keeps my guns going. Usually 1 week turn around. Shoots most matches in the area. Has picked up my gun at one match delivered at next a week later. Probably only  a hour or so away from you.

Salyer is a great gunsmith, as others said, quick and reasonable prices.
