45 acp and N-310

I know some guys are using Vihtavouri N-310 in their 45acp's but going to the Viht web site they don't show any loads with that powder only N-320.

Is there some published data somewhere that I could be directet to?

In the era of powder shortages it seems easier to buy jacketed or cast bullets whether 185, 200 or 230 grain to match what powders are on hand. Bullet weight doesn't bother me, I have plenty of all listed weights in both lead and jacketed. What I need is a load for any of those weights with Vihtavouri N-310 if it exist.

I run 3.9 of 310 behind the Zero 185 SWCHP with Winchester primers.

I have found that 3.85 gr of VV310 to be an excellent load for 200 gr SWC accuracy wise. (Although some say its a little fast, I've found you need to get to a certain velocity to get the best compromise between recoil, accuracy, leading and grouping and this works for me.)  I simply substitute a 180 / 185 gr SWC for the short line.  You should expect some very consistent velocities and good/great groups with a quality barrel / built gun. 

My specifics are good brass (Federal / Starline), WW LP primers - do not change unless changing powder charge, a well setup set of dies (dillon with O-ring locking nuts, deburred powder measure, modified seating stem, Arredondo Powder Drop Slide with mods), seating from the shoulder to 1.238 overall with Oregon Trail 200 gr SWC and 0.469 - 0.470 crimp.  Shoots well out of most Kart barrels and great out of mine.

3.8 gr N310 & 200 gr LSWC Match Grade bullets from Penn Bullets, .470 crimp and a final Lee Factory Crimp. Gives snappy recoil, burns clean, accurate. Results may differ with your particular gun.

I've tested v-310 many times, load it the same as bullseye powder, 3.8- 4.0 works great with the 185 lswc and the 200. 4.5 with a 185fmj-hp is awesomely accurate a t 50yds

Here were my results with both Lead and jacketed:






The JHP is the Zero clone of the Nosler 185 gr JHP.  VERY nice bullet.  The 1.61" group at 50 yards beat the 1.70" group test target that came with my Les Baer Bullseye Wadcutter gun.

My lead sweetspot was 0.1 grain under minimum charge specified.  The JHP was a little above midpoint of charge range.

I have not been very happy with N310 in .38 Spl or .45 Auto (or any other cartridge I have loaded it in). I have gotten pressure spikes/erratic velocity/erratic accuracy. YMMV and I will be leaving that powder for the rest of you.

Lots of people are / were very happy with VV310.  If you have enough to make the shipping worthwhile let me know what you want for it.

CR10X you couldn't afford the hazmat for ½ lb of powder.

Some of us are having such a hard time finding ANY powder that the hazmat cost--even for 1/2lb might start being worth it....

And this is why I picked up 4 pounds of N-310. Running low on BE and TG and who knows when we will see them again.

The N-310 should keep me shooting for a while.
