Waxy Eley Sport Empty Waxy Eley Sport

Post by dstates Sun Apr 13, 2014 6:27 pm

A while back I came across a brick of Eley Sport for a good price.  I am in between matches now so I thought I would shoot it up instead of my CCI SV.  However, I could barely get through a 50 rd box of it last week.  I shoot a Ruger MKIII that I've never called an alibi with using CCI SV or mini-mag.  I could barely get it to feed better than 80% with the Eley Sport.  I found that it has much more wax on it than the CCI does.  If I put more than a few rounds in a magazine and pulled the follower down and let go, the rounds would slowly work their way up to the top of the mag.  I then put some CCI in and they worked fine.  The slow movement in the mag was causing it to get caught on the feed ramp and jam.

I think I'm going to have to wipe off what wax I can before I head to the range and make sure I've got freshly cleaned mags.  Any other suggestions?

I shoot Eley Sport sometimes for the same reason (good price).I don't seem to have your problem just found it not very accurate. I have to ask You where you keep the ammo.I googled the National weather service and it says that its only 30 degrees there. If you haven't done so already you could try warming it up.At room temperature the ammo should be just very slick feeling. It might have got super cold and changed its properties permanently. Then you get to fight with the whole brick.

Len,

I hadn't thought of that... I do store it inside so it is kept at room temperature.  However, when I go to the range, it sits in my truck all day while I'm at work.  Last week on that day it was a high of 63 and low of 37.  I only took a couple boxes with me.  I'll have to try again with a "fresh" box on a warm day.

Thanks.

Any other thoughts or suggestions?

eley sport is made by aguila in the factory in Mexico, I have shot lots of it and mine was very accurate as for running in a ruger or a 41, good luck they just don't like it.
