cast bullet luber sizer

I have about 450 pounds of range lead cleaned up and cast into the Lyman 1 pound ingots.  I'm gonna give casting a try and will be in need of a luber sizer.  Does anyone have any recomendations?  Midway has the Saeco on clearance for like $155.  Does one work better or easier than the other or produce better results?  Any help would be appreciated.

Unless you can latch on to  a Star they are pretty much do the same thing the same way.

If this is true, its a great advantage overy my Lyman 450 ??  Most lubes need a heater for Lyman & RCBS.  Magma Star Lube-sizer   http://www.magmaengineering.com/component/banners/click/14/   I know people that have pulled the pressure screw out of the Lyman. Doesnt seem to happen with the RCBS. I know nothing about the Saeco model. The dies are interchangable between the Lyman & RCBS.

From my days of high power shooting when I'd cast for the 308 for practice to save some money, the Saeco was much better in one respect; handling the gas check installation part of sizing. So if you think you might expand this new aspect of your shooting to include rifle and hot loads for 38, 44, 45 Colt, get the Saeco.

star is the best, hands down.

I have never used a Star but I see there advantage! Check out the Old UTUBE, there are vid's of all the different brands in action.

Save up and get a STAR.

Although the new wave is powdercoating. Unless something changes in the near future I think powdercoated cast bullets may make traditional lube obsolete.

Thanks for reminding me.  Yes, this could be considered another great feature about the SAECO.  I can't say I've ever gotten 50 bullets, but you definitely get quite a few before having to give the handle a turn.  It is not life threatening with the other brands; you will get in to a rhythm anyway but there is no spring inside the RCBS so you only get what a nearly incompressible material (lube) can give you and thats two bullets.  I don't know about the Lyman.

I would feel deprived with any thing but a Star. I started w/a Lyman but it was s l o w and the base needed repeated cleanings or there was lube on the bullet base.

A club member & team shooter built a powered Star. The unit was mounted on a 3/4" aluminum base. Positioned at an angle towards it's side the bullets were dropped in a piece of channel. The odd angle allowed gravity to slide bullets down the channel into the die's path. The unit was a harsh taskmaster. It ran something like 36 RPM. More time was spent changing lube sticks than running! A larger reservoir and air pressure would have really been nice. I think he made 3 of them. They all used the older Stars from CA. No experience w/ Magma mfg although their casting machines recieve good reviews.

Over the years i have owned a lyman 45 and 450 and two Saecos,  about 30 years ago i bought my first Star L/S
  and never regretted selling the others . about 15 years ago i bought my second Star .

 Although about twice the price of the others there worth about ten times the price for  L/S cast bullets. you can easyly do 1000 per hr.

   The star is like using a dillon 550  . the others is like using a single stage press. Ill let you decide your needs

There's a NEW San Diego on the cast bullet forum.  If I didn't have 2 already I'd be all over this.  As bob, DavidR and subsonic said (with my full agreement), go with the Star and you'll never regret it.

I had several different lube sizers, an older BE shooter said I was doing it wrong if I wasn't using a Star, ha! He let me use his and he was right, a Star is by far the best I have used. I sold all my others and bought two Star's, one in 358 and one in 452.

I just use the Lee sizer and alox lube for my .40-82 300gr bullits'

I had an RCBS Lubri-Sizer back in the early '70s (in fact, I still have the thing). It did what it was supposed to. About 1973, I started testing as-cast and sized bullets and concluded that, in my guns any way, the as-cast were more accurate.
Thus, after maybe 10000 cast bullets over the years, they have all be as-cast. For rifle bullets, I had to lube them so I ran them through a sizer using a "sizing" die that was 0.001" over the nominal as-cast diameter. I did this with pistol bullet before I started pan lubbing. Then I went to tumble lubbing and never looked back.
If you really won't test this for yourself and simply must size the poor bullets, use the Lee or Star.

A friend loaned me his Star that was sitting in his basement.  It has a .4515 die in it.  I have put about 1500 bullets through it so far.  Maybe closer to 2000.  Man is that thing fast!  Another caster told me he spent about as long sizing bullets as he did casting them.  That is one of the things that put me off about casting.  But so far I'm kinda enjoying it.  We'll see how long that lasts!

In a few years down the road the star/magnma L/S will be worth more than you paid for it new ! maybe double ! the lyman,Rcbs or Saeco you will get less than you paid for it as low as 1/2 price .
 Why because the star/magnma is the best of manuai'y operated L/S and is a upgrade in equipment for most casters. Its the same as Dillons hold there value and you can get a single stage press used for $35.00

Do yourself a favor and get the Star with all the accessories. The bullet feeder, lube heater and air pressure lube pressure will get you producing top quality bullets in competition quantities in minimal time and with a lot less hassle than futsing with the old style hobby stuff. Eric and the folks at Magma are really helpful and get even special order stuff out in a timely manner. I just ordered a bullet mold from them which had to be converted to use manual handles. Eric said he would have it on the way in two days. And he will too.

Another +1 for Star. I've had mine a few months now and its the best money I ever spent in all my casting gear. I would also suggest using Mike's 6-6-6-1 lube. It solved all my leading problems using range scrap. My barrels are clean as a whistle now and shine like a mirror!
