.22 conversions. Which is best?

I have a 1911 lower ready to receive a .22 upper. I found and purchased a Marvel unit 1 on gun broker and I should have it by mid next week. Did I do the right thing?

Joe..I have a 2 Marvels..One is a 5" set up with UltraDot for Bullseye and I have a longslide with sights that I use for International shooting..I was shooting the 5" today and if I do my part it will shoot x/10 ring at 50 yards every time..You notice (if I do my part) Thats a whole lot easier said than done..ha ha I'm sure you will be happy with the conversion..They do have some quirks like magazines and recoil springs..I use Kimber plastic magazines and ISMI 8lb recoil springs with Federal 711b ammo and this thing runs 100%..I have had fair luck with the steel Colt Ace mags as well but not 100% reliability..Maybe 99%..Keep shoots X'S!! Joe..I forgot to mention..Make sure to keep the slide rails and recoil spring rod wet with light oil..I just use 3-1 oil and keep the recoil rod tight as this effects the zero..I actually use a torque wrench on the recoil rod at 25 inch lbs..If this rod comes loose you will definitely loose your zero..Mark

Marvel is the best imo, i had one and the biggest thing is to make sure your trigger job is spot on, mine let me down in the Tennessee state match when the hammer started following when the slide dropped. It takes a really good smith to do a 2.5lb 1911 trigger job.

Thanks for all the info. This unit 1 come with the combo sights and scope rail and 3 metal mags. I have 3 cases of CCI SV and hope I can get it to work with that ammo. I should have it by the middle of next week and I will start working with it then. I had a Hammerli SP-20, but I decided I wanted to duplicat the 1911 lower so I won't have such a difference between guns. I will Post my results and more than likely ask a few more questions. I really wanted the new Bob Marvel unit but I hear that they still won't be out for anothe 3-4 months.

I think you will likethe Marvel unit. I have one mounted on a (dedicated) Esex frame, that shoots x ring at 25 yds. I have used a variety of ammo, settled on Aguila. I had a scope rail made from steel to give the same weight and balance as my 45 Gold Cup. The aluminum rail that came with the unit was lighter weight than the 45. The Millett red dot works well with it.

For 22 conversions don't overlook the Advantage Arms model. I have 3, one is Bob Marvels #10, and the other two have Bob's select barrels. Placed on the dedicated frame, or wad or HB frames (all LB/Toyota), they work great. The original AA barrels themselves are very good and accurate. Under 1.5" with average ammo, and 1" with the likes of Eley. The Bob Marvel barrels are even better. Like 5/8 or better with Wolf ammo. And they are not ammo particular. Plus the AA lock back. Yes, I like them. And I am waiting for Bob's next version.

Marvel Precision now makes and sells the heavier scope mount.

I have two of the Marevel #1 units. One is set uo with open sights and the other with an Ultradot. The Marvel #1 unit is the only 22 conversion unit made with bullseye level accuracy and reliability. Mine have functioned with total reliability using SKJagd PM, Wolf MT, and Aguilla SE SV. I did use CCI SV but was able to purchase the Agilla SE at a much better price from the CMP. I use light oil on the slide rails and have never had a feeding failure.

I believe His (Marvel) next conversion is being distributed by Nighthawk tactical.com and is available now.

I have two of the Marvels. The first is set up for a dot. The other has irons. At the time, they didn't offer the rib that allows both.

They are both awesome. My dot conversion came with a test target that is about 0.5 inches with CCI-SV. That seems impossible to beat in my opinion.

Hard to top the Marvel for match accuracy. - That said, 6(?) months ago I purchased ($225+s&H) a factory 2nd AA 1911s standard conversion for iron sight practice. - It's the new AA design. I like it. Accuracy is better than I expected and it's been functioning 100%.
The new style slide stop insert hasn't come loose.
AA recommends a couple HV ammos, CCI Blazer not among them. - Actually Blazer is the only ammo I've shot in it (several bricks so far) - got a case locally for $139.00/sale. - The conversion is on a stock SA Mil-Spec lower - no mainspring change.

A modified CP shok-buff works perfectly in this-as it does in my Marvel.
The front sight on mine is short for 6 o'clock hold-OK because I'm using sub-6. - AA said they were ordering taller front sights for future units.

I received the marvel today. It is the unit 1 with the combo top rib, 3 metal mags. I had alreay prepared a SA 1911A1 lower so I oiled up, installed on the lower, then installed my Match Dot. I went to a local range that has a 25 and 50 years ranges. After sighting in, I could easily group in the X ring @ 25 yards off sand bags. I went over to the 50 yard range and it took two clicks up and they all went in the X ring - but a slightly larger group. I was using CCI SV plastic box. I had one time the the hammer followed but the round did not fire. Just re-cocking the trigger and it fired. From the sand bags I went offhand and I found I need to change the combo rib to the scope mount only as the scope - mount as far back as it will go - could still need another 2 inches back for better balance.

Does anyone have a scope mount rib they want to get rid of. Is there anyone that is looking for the combo rib? It vomes with the orange fron sight and the black post front sight.

I got mine on Gunbroker as well and put it on a dedicated Caspian frame with a sweet 3.5 lb trigger. That thing shoots like its unconcious. I too use the CCI SV. My buddies shake their heads when shooting indoor 50 ft I can sometimes call a "low,right 10" or something similar, and thats where it is. Pretty sure you won't be sorry. Now if I can just hold STILL!

Dave, can you fill me in on who made the steel scope mount for your Marvel conversion and how much that might cost? When I was a Perry, Sheila with MP didn't have any "heavy" scope mounts on hand and was vague about their construction and price. I like my Marvel, but it could use a little more weight.
