Ramped barrel on a .45 wad gun

Is a ramped barrel an advantage over a plain barrel in a .45 wad gun? If so, which configuration? Clark/Para or Nowlin/Wilson?

Not if the pistol feeds well. But if it makes you feel good go for it!

I never saw the need for one and I don't have many alibis and none I can remember that I could attribute to not having a ramped barrel. John M. Browning got it right the first time.

From an accuracy stand point, I believe there is a slight edge to be gained from the ramp configuration. The extra mass of the lower unit when fit  with minimum clearance adds extra support to the barrel frame interface. The best groups I have seen were from ramped barrels. I prefer the Wilson/Nowlin style. Extra work, cost, etc. give ramped barrels the negative status.

Would a ramped barrel be legal on a hardball gun, since it is not visible outside the gun?  Im not jumping up and down in favor of them, I do have an old GI gun that was over ramped to the point it wont feed anything and would like to get it shootable again. I was wondering if the extra surfaces on the ramped barrels might stabilize it better and resist torque forces, making it more accurate and longer lasting. As you say Jerry. a.  It's not an external alteration, so there should not be a problem.
b.  Best to get an interpretation from CMP.  For decades I shot an Al Dinan hardball gun.  One of Al's trademarks was to drill two holes in the front sight.  After about 40 years, Gary Anderson himself ruled it illegal.  I had to fill in the holes with putty.
