Can't. Resist.

Does it have new reloading machine smell?

Tips:
1) When installing the shell plate, lower it all the way down before tightening the nut so it is aligned.
2) Cleanliness is critical for all progressive presses. If you spill powder, stop, remove the cases and shell plate and clean up everything--immediately
3) To install the lever arm for the primer system, lower the ram about half way and things will align much easier. Also, don't unbolt the lever arm assembly support, but pull the "cotter" pin to remove the lever.
4) My machines are smoothest with the shell plate fairly tight.
5) DO NOT force anything, ever. Stop, remove the cases, and work through to find the problem
6) Get the caliber/cartridge specific "power funnel" expanders and not the generic "flare only" thing that generally comes with the press.
I walked into the Dillon store and told the clerk I needed a .40S&W powder funnel for my press. He pointed my to the end shelf that had powder funnels--not the powder-through expander "powder funnels." Even they have problems with what a powder funnel and a "powder funnel" is.
7) Buy and watch the 1050 DVD. Pay attention to WHAT the narrator does and less to what he says. He has several "tricks" that he isn't aware he is doing.
I bought a used Super 1050 and it arrived completely disassembled. I almost thought about taking the box to Dillon for re-assembly. It did pack into a smaller box being totally disassembled like that...

Thanks for the pointers.  This will be my second 1050, my first Super.  There are always little tricks that make things run better.

There are a ton of tricks out there for the 1050.  My favorite is the replacing the spent primer cup with a hose.  Simple too!  cut the base off a 5.56 case, chamfer the inside of the neck (optional - I did this so there was NO chance of a primer hanging up) then insert in the underside of the press where the spent primers fell through - it's a friction fit doesn't come loose.  Attach a hose (I used a clear one) then route underneath your bench to an old ammo can.

I load for a guy who re-man ammo commercially, he uses all 1050's, they are smooth and powerful. Much better than my personal 650, but the price, ouch. The toolhead is the kicker. I want one in .223, and can get a good discount, but its still a big ticket. You WONT be disappointed.

Anyone want to buy a 650 with case feeder set up for 45ACP and .223?

You think the 1050 is the ne plus ultra?  Try the Dillon 1000 if you can ever find one.  It is everything that a Star should have been if grown up!
