Shooter1450,

This one isn't for sale, but it might give you an idea about making one of your own.

After I took this picture there was some flex so I took some flat stock and bent it into the shape of a thumb rest and welded that down the edge to the baseplate.  It works well.

I drilled the holes in steps to match the steps in the bushings and it makes a positive lockup against the bushings.  The screws really don't do anything other than keep the plate from coming off.  There is no play, even with the grip screws loose or off.  It was by chance but the plunger tunnel is tight against the plate also.

I made it so the magwell is clear of the lee rest.  This allows mag changes without any adjustments to the Lee.  It's way better than going single shot with the Lee Magazine insert.

What Rob says is insightful. The 1911 lee insert is virtually useless. His solution is much better.

Thanks for the replies. I like the idea for the 1911. I was working on an idea to use a Ransom insert but I like yours better. Besides  Ransom parts are bringing top dollar and the idea of the Lee is economy and keeping it simple. Thanks again.

Ransom Rests are difficult to master.  The Lee is much easier to make groups with.  I would say that I feel confident that my Lee groups are within 1/4" of what a ransom expert could do with the same gun.

Shooter 1450,

Do you live in the Midwest?  Let me know if you are unable to make your own adapter.  If you live nearby, I would have you over and we could make one for you in my cheesy Wisconsin shop.
