255 grain rnfp mastercast load data? Empty 255 grain rnfp mastercast load data?

Post by orpheoet Fri Nov 21, 2014 5:38 am

I picked up 500 of these to use for pinshooting but I cant find much info on loads. I read  a post from about 10 years ago about something from midway  that recomended a starting load of 3.1 gr of bullseye. I loaded a few with 3.1 grains and an oal of 1.23. Thats the longest oal i could get to go through the magazine. Im a bit concerned because the bullet seats deeper than 230 gr round nose. Anybody have experience with these? They are .452 and I have read of people using them for bowling pins. I've been using 230 gr lead with 3.6 grains of bullseye. Thats the range I want these to be in. Slow but heavy:)

These bullets might be intended for use in revolvers, such as the Ruger Blackhawk chambered in .45 Colt, rather than for a 1911.

I don't have any Bullseye data but back way off your 230 loads as a starting point. Heavier bullet = higher pressure, deeper seating also = higher pressure.

Back when I shot pins I loaded a friends 260gr cast bullet for my 1911 with Red Dot but it was long ago and I don't have/remember the data anymore, he had already done all the work to get them to run right I just started a little lighter and worked up to where he was. You don't need to run them any faster than 650-700fps they will slam the pins and recoil nice too!

ps I think we went with a stiffer recoil spring too even at the lower speeds.

Well, 3.1 grains of Bullseye with oal 1.185 functioned perfectly with 12 lb spring. Very light recoil. How well it does with pins, I'll let you know. Next pinshot is in a month.
