Yeow! Teaching a Little Reloading!

Co-worker has a new Dillon 550.  Still in the box with all the extras.  We plan to use it to run a reloading class.  Reloading Class?  Yes, after 40 years of reloading I got the NRA to certify me to teach reloading.  The class, as put together by the NRA, isn't intended to help experienced loaders to refine their techniqes.  It is a walk before you run, ABC, kind of course.  Invited 2 more interested persons to participate. I'll have a set of the NRA course materials for each participant.  Expecting it to be lots of fun!  FWIW I shoot at least 200 rounds of reloads at work each week.   The class participants will be fellow range safety officers who have seen how reliable and accurate a properly constructed hand load can be.   Don't think they have thoroughly grasped the economic advantages of a good cast bullet but that will come with time...

I didn't know there was a sanctioned NRA reloading program. I've been interested in putting something like this together in my area. 

Can you give me more details about the program and how to get certified?

FYI, I contacted Lee about reloading classes and they stated that they would provide their equipment to the class for 50% off MSRP. That offer was in writing to me, but I don't know if that offer is universal--it's worth a try.

Lee supports us well.  Seems like they were the one that wanted me to have scheduled training posted on the NRA web site before they cut the good deal on loading manuals and equipment.  FWIW when I was putting my training material together MidSouth and ALL the big reloading equipment manufacturers gave me a resounding YES when I asked if I could use their pictures in my slides.  Midway said absolutely NOT.  I use that bit of information when I buy shooting supplies these days.  Midway is my LAST choice for anything.

Midway also doesn't offer a military discount unlike Brownells.

I think a reloading class is an excellent idea.  I suspect many of us that are older learned from our dads or our grandparents, but with fewer shooters that is probably not the case today for the younger shooters that want to get into reloading.  Learning from a book and/or YouTube videos is possible but nothing beats having someone with experience show you the ropes.

There is definitely a need for face to face hands on reloading instruction for folks with little or no
experience.
I have been reloading and casting bullets since 1971.  I consider myself safe and competent.
In my opinion, and it's just MY opinion, I would not recommend teaching a newbie on a progressive reloader.

Midway does a lot to support the 2nd Amendment, as well as, competitive shooting. Sorry that you couldn't use their pictures, but I will have to look at their overall contributions to the shooting sports and continue to be a customer.

I agree with BE MIKE on all that MidwayUSA does for the shooting sports.

I also agree with their decision on not letting you use their photo's. They loose all control and unfortunately by giving you permission they open themselves up to litigation if things went bad. Sucks but it's the way things are.

When someone or company asked to use our media or even our trademark it was closely controlled (contractually) in how it would/could be used.

Just recreate the pics you wanted to use and take them yourself.

I would not mind.  I am only certified to coach shotgun.  Not sure what red tape there would be for us.  If students sign something holding us harmless and we do not charge anything I would think we would be ok.

I'm sure I got the Midway Corporate response.  No doubt In my mind that Larry Potterfield's response would have been more like MidSouth's.  Midsouth said YES and asked that I send them a copy of my presentation.    Funny thing is that all the pictures I asked to use in the Midway Catalogue belong to the people who manufactured the hardware.  They all gleefully gave me written permission to use them all.  Teach with a Progressive?  That must be a part of the class since the class content is dictated by the NRA and covers it all.  We will demo with a Dillon 550 because one of the students has a new one.  I plan to bring a SDB to demo an auto indexing loader.  The Rockchucker will be there too.
