Problem with lube oozing out? Empty Problem with lube oozing out?

Post by beeser 1/18/2015, 8:48 am

I'm getting lube oozing out of 9mm cases.  What could be the cause of it?  I'm using new Starline brass, Penn 115g LSWC bullets and Dillon carbide dies.  I don't remember the same thing happening when first using once fired brass.  Could it be the case mouth is not opened up far enough?

Many replies come to mind for this post (mostly disgusting), but I'll leave it alone. Good luck with the oozing. Wink

do you mean lube is scraping off and appearing at the top of the bullet? this would indicate insufficient belling of the case mouth.

That's what I suspected.  I'll open up the case mouth a little more next time.

If you have enough lube coming you notice it, then either the bullets have too much lube or you do need to open up the case mouth more and and check the ID of the flared case a little further down.  Think about it, if we're squeezing the bullet enough that the lube is coming out the top, we might be deforming the bullet some (potentially near the base).  If its getting too undersized in the case, you can have leading and group issues.  The nine demand a little technique to get the best accuracy from lead.  Keep on changing things until it works out.
