.45 Recipe Empty .45 Recipe

Post by Flytrap1 1/17/2015, 5:20 pm

I have a Range Officer with a slide mounted optic and a 13 Lb. Spring. I would like to use 185 gr. Lswc bullets at 750-800 Fps. I will be using both Bullseye and unique powders.

The recipe for my springfield is 3.8gr Bullseye. .468" crimp.
I don't have a chrono, but the load is accurate.  Since you don't win any awards for velocity, I didn't think it matters.

Springfields custom shop mounted the optic for me and test fired it. And the was the velocity they recommended to avoid any damage to the gun.

With the right springs, you can use almost any load you like. Find the best group from 3.6 to 4.1 grains. Go up in recoil spring until the gun doesn't always lock open on empty.

Now, you've found the load for your gun with that powder and bullet.

Just like Dewey said above, it's better to find the recipe that produces the best accuracy with your bullets, then increase or decrease the recoil spring to protect the gun.

I have ransomed tested many 185's lswc loads with 3.9 being the best overall, but you will most likely need to drop to a 10 or 11 spring with a slide mount dot
