22 Distinguished program Empty 22 Distinguished program

Post by tierney Mon Feb 16, 2015 10:24 pm

In reference to the 22 Distinguished program, how many currently Distinguished Pistol shooters are planning to pursue the 22 badge and is the 22 Distinguished match
at Perry going to be conducted concurrently or consecutively with the NTI?  I realize that the schedule for Perry has not been posted yet.  If the matches are run
concurrently my personal preference would be to stick with the big gun although I agree fully with the CMP beginning a new program to boost the sports attendance.

I need my hard leg so I'm shooting .45 this year--unless they have separate match times--then I'll shoot both.

I seem to recall that the suggestion was to run the two matches consecutively. The draft of both Eastern Games and Perry shows them consecutive or on different days.

I've spoken with a number of distinguished shooters who are interested in shooting the 22 match.

We'll see. I'm not super-excited about it, but then again I wasn't super excited about Distinguished Revolver, either, when it came about.

It's essentially a half-course of standard pistol. Lord knows I've shot some standard pistol in my day.

I am still foggy on what 22's can be used... Will a S&W model 46 with standard barrel and iron sights qualify? What about a 22 conversion on a Springfield 45 frame? If either of them are allowed and the matches are shot at different times I'd soot them.

You can check the rules but basically any .22 with a trigger of 2.5 lbs , iron sights, and no compensator is legal. The 46, a ruger, a 1911 conversion, a pardini, a benelli, a Hamerli etc etc.
etc etc.

Just looked at the rule book and it indicates 2.0 lbs for the trigger weight.  Section 6.4.2.

Since I am just beginning my quest for legs to accomplish my goal of double distinguished, I will shoot every chance to go for legs under competition pressure and compete in 22EIC whenever I can.  Plan on using a 22 conversion.

I think most of the distinguished shooters at Perry will shoot it, At least there is something to shoot for. Once distinguished there not much left for a civilian, I have a pile of those Custer Medals. Only thing that bothers me is that I think Anderson is trying to push is into shooting international.

Well, the lift may get more Americans into shooting Standard Pistol and maybe Rapid. The point right now is other than NRA Bullseye, the only precision .22 lr pistol is International. Getting more young people the skills that they need to be internationally competitive (if they want) seems like a win to me.

I want to shoot. Those are the rules. So I guess that's how it is.

I don't think so, but don't want to go into it as it will be way off topic

I sat here last night reading this thread wishing I was still part of the mix. I can no longer compete to any degree. I'm currently working and and hoping to be physically able to shoot just a 900 with my .38 conversion. Maybe even post a score I'm not too embarassed about.

My point is enjoy all of this while you can. It will be over all too soon. Cecil and others have offered good information about matches, volunteering etc. Take it to heart. Don't take your differences too seriuosly. It's a great sport. Discussing (?) (arguing?) about the rules are all part of it.

Remember how good a 50 yd X can feel! A clean target! A goal reached! Gettin' that last leg!!

Now just takin' that Colt in hand, feelin' the cold stippled steel & checkered walnut is a pleasure.

Ron,

Get out the 22.

I don't know how long you shot in FL. I have friends who were active with Pistol there in the early to mid 60's.

JM,
I started shooting in FL in'01. Hernando Sportsman & Wyoming FL div.

I've been on & off the past several yrs due to health & arms. I shoot the .22 & the .38 but miss being competitve. My interest is so strong I keep trying to come back. Today I shot near 40 rds of .22 & 30-35 of .38. The arm wasn't good today at all.

Thanks,
Ron

I'm not Distinguished Pistol (yet), but I'm in for the .22 program.
Time to start practicing that "Low Ready" start though! That will change the game considerably.
