Ultra Dot failing Empty Ultra Dot failing

Post by Guest 4/10/2015, 6:45 am

My Ultra Dot is 3 years old. I replaced the batteries 2 months ago. Yesterday while shooting, the dot went dim after a shot, then it completly went off after a shot. When I set it to a lower setting, the problem went away. Are different settings capable of making the Ultra Dot go out? Or it this a warning to replace the Ultra Dot?

That's what mine was doing for the last two months.  It finally failed completely last week.  When I opened it up, there was one of the little battery tabs broken off.  Off it went to Ultradot yesterday.

could be bad batteries, remove and use a some alcohol on a q tip to clean the contacts then  try a Duracell or energizer then see how it does,

Back when Adam was home shooting quite a bit I had problems with Ultradot and Illusion. Some of the changing dot intensity was cured with a pencil eraser rubbed on the tabs in the selector switch. That was the older style and don't use them any more. Another thing I did was completely replace the scope after a year of shooting. I took one apart and seen that the aluminum tube inside that the adjustment screws moved was getting dented by recoil. After a while changing elevation would alter windage and the other way too. Also one had rubber and not a spring to hold the tube against the adjustment screws that would get weak after repeated recoil. I would sell the used scopes to IDPA type shooters and replace ours with a new ones.

Had problems with my first ultradot when I first started shooting, the dot would intermittantly go out and back on.
Was told to always go clockwise when turning on and off the dot.
So I cranked on it clockwise about 10 times and it started working and has been ever since.
Was told that the contacts inside can loosen if turned counter clock wise too often.
So even if you have it set on #3 like I do, do not go back 3 clicks to turn it off, go all the way up and around to off going clock wise.

Worked for me, YMMV.

I've been having exactly the same problem with the UltraDot on my Beretta 87T lately - I tried "cranking on it clockwise" a bunch just now, and now the dot is holding steady, no flickering. I'm going to turn the dot on/off clockwise from now on!

Great tip! - I just pulled out a used dot that was flickering, actually more of a fade and wouldn't stay on.  Turned it clockwise about 8-10 turns and it works like it is supposed to.  Glad I didn't toss it!  I pulled out all my others and gave then a couple turns for good measure

Save your receipts on these things.  Eventually the contacts will go intermittent.  I have a 1" that dates from 1980-something.  It went intermittent and Ultradot fixed it under warranty.  It costs about $12 return shipping, and they took several weeks to do it, but it works again.
