.45 ACP brass, what brand do you like and why?

We can spin this around and ask what brand do you dislike, and why?

My recipes call for starline at the long line.

I like Starline

Winchester, R&P both out shoot me... Have 1k of StarLine to "play" with... But I won't be wasting it any time soon.

OH! I seem to use Winchester more than any other brass. No good reason other than it "pulls" consistently when I reload them... So does R&P...

I like WCC and Federal because Winchester primers seem to seat more consistently with them.

Ed Masaki did a lot of machine rest testing. He used brass with mixed headstamps. He got great groups. He even used brass with cracks and they shot into the group.

watch Winchester, the white box stuff has larger flash holes, no big deal unless you mix it with older cases with the small flash holes it will shoot to different points at 50 yds

I use Remington 45 brass mainly but have a mix.  I have around 900 Remington from 1998 that I still use today.

Remington still has large primer pockets in their loaded ammo unlike some competitors (Federal and Winchester) who have changed over to small pocket primers.

I've been using Starline for years

Federal, Winchester, Remington  -- -- -difference to me is:
Remington seems to be slightly thinner walled - sizes easier- and if some of your rounds are too tight in the finished round gauge or don't chamber easily the Remington brass helps noticeably. - Might not hold the bullet as securely??-but I've had no problems.  -

his testing was pre lead free primers which requires a larger flash hole, so only use his info if your brass is over 10 years old.

OK.. I'll give up the Starline secret...It works better at 50 yards because it's longer....

The late Al Bacon and I did some testing also.. At the NRA Show in Pittsburgh, PA 2005, we purchased a batch of  Starline 460 Rowland brass.  Al's chambers were cut to what was considered optimum at that time  of .903
There is no brass manufactured that long.. Most of the " Big Three" brass is in the low .880s.  A fixture was made to reduce the  460 to .900. About 100 cases were made at first. Loaded and tested against various  other lengths.. The minimum headspaced Rowland brass consistently shot better groups. I have always been an advocate  of minimum headspace, but this  reenforced it to an obsession.  I have spent considerable time measuring brass and testing.. Starline is the best...

I like remington a lot but the price new is crazy. I benched some loads today and remington reloaded like 5 or 6 times out shot the new star line.  

I know people hate small primers but Blazer brass is excellent. 

Federal is excellent. 

Starline is good and available 

Winchester is supposed to last longer but I had just as many cracked cases with Winchester as Remington.

What ever brand other shooters leave on the range.

I was given 5,000 once fired deprimed Federal cases with some other stuff I bought. So far I've been through them 1 1/2 times no issues and seem accurate. I had bought some Starline brass before I got the "motherload" but I haven't used any yet, maybe I'll start loading them for the long line.

What is the best new factory loaded brass?  I have heard about the Fed being SPP now. I have a stash of old brass, but needing some more, and was just going to buy some factory loads to practice with, and then use the brass. Is the Win WWB any good brass? Who else uses SPP, and not LPP?

If I pick up any brass with SPP (small primer pocket) I used to throw them away in disgust. You can really mess up if you mix them up. Now I take any SPP I come across and throw it in the 400 Corbon tray. The Corbon uses small rifle primers. At least I found a use for them. I wouldn't have any problem using them for the 45 IF that was all I had.

I hate short brass (trim length)  Not good for accuracy.  45acp brass  never seems to need trimming.

I agree with Ed that brass is probably the least important part if the accuracy equation in a .45. Since it headspaces on the case neck, case length is fairly unimportant. The bullet is far more important. My cases are all mixed, many times fired, some from '65, '84 and lots unknown. They all shoot to the same group. Spend the time used on brass work on dry firing and you will be many points ahead.
