S&W model 41 Empty S&W model 41

With the new Distinguished Rim fire I thought Id get out my model 41, well about 15 shots in to practice I realized and remember why I quit shooting this gun. I won't go bang all the time. It doesn't matter what magazine I use the trigger will not reset all the time.
So before I turn it into a boat anchor I figured you guys might give me a direction to go. I did in fact turn the small Allen screw behind the trigger in, just in case that was the issue, it wasn't.

Help!

Many times trigger issues on 41s is just due to needing a good cleaning, powder residue builds up at the sear, if a good cleaning doesn't fix it, find a gunsmith to look or send it to SW for repair

+1 to this - the design of the gun allows a lot of stuff to get in the hammer/sear area, so keeping it clean (every several hundred rounds or so) is key.

+2  I don't take it all the way apart to clean. I blast the hammer sear area with Rem spray oil that cleans it up and leaves a very light film of oil. Others might do it differently.

The trigger bar has a notch machined into it that interfaces with the sear. When engaged with the sear, moving the trigger to the rear will pull the sear out of the hammer hooks. The slide coming to the rear pushes the trigger bar down, disengaging the the from the sear. Releasing the trigger allows the trigger bar to raise up to re engage the sear for the next shot.. IF, the notch in the trigger bar is incorrectly located, or not wide enough,  the bar will not interface with the sear..and the trigger will not re set. In this picture, I am adjusting the depth and width of the notch. It's an easy fix, and it's a rather common problem..

Thanks for the replys. The gun is clean. This is the most frustrating part of this sport I hate playing Jr gunsmith.

My 41 had the same problem on several occasions.  The reason was different each time. One time, there was crud in the forward end of the frame slot where the trigger bar is engaged.  Second time, the sear pin slipped out of the slot on the right side causing misalignment with the trigger bar. Last time, the trigger bar notch was worn out
