WOW;

Winning bid was $391.77

I knew it would get up there but not that far up there.

Wow! I sold one that came with my 52 for $179 several weeks ago to a competitor and hoped I was not charging too much!

there is a used 52 barrel on ebay this week that I would suggest you not bid on.. I won it a few weeks back and had to return it as it has a ring in the bore.. obviously from a dud round

the gentleman refunded my $$ without issue but I'm surprised he has it back for sale with no mention of the ring.. Seller is  bret0nseneca

I went and asked the seller a few questions.
Will see what the response is.

Where in the barrel was the bulge ?

FYI, I have a 52 with a very slight bulge just past the chamber.  When testing with a ransom rest it is just as accurate as one without the bulge.  It really depends where the bulge is and how big.

Even though mine shoots good I want to replace the barrel, so I'm looking too.

The seller replied stating he cannot see the barrel bulge.
And yes it is the same barrel that was sold to you and returned.

I don't need a barrel so this is for information purposes only.

You can't see the bulge in mine either (from the outside), you can barely feel it only after you know where it is. I discovered mine cleaning it with a tight patch. Then when you look at it in the right light a dark ring appears inside the barrel just past the chamber. Luckily mine doesn't impact accuracy.

This is a common issue with HBWC ammo and too hot a load (or bad cast bullets) the hollow base separates from the round and stays in the barrel. The next round bulges your barrel and you "might" not even feel anything different because you basically have a ring of lead in there so the gas can escape, unlike a stuck round - then boom Sad.

why the companies(wolf,kart,bar-sto,kkm,etc) don't make aftermarket52 midrange match grade barrel?? this barrels are very scarce and have high demand, because dont have options. is very sadly, great pistol of all times without high quality aftermarket parts(barrels, mags, etc)

What may seem like a high demand in our little world is likely not a ripple on the water to a manufacturer. Why does S&W not start production of the 52 up again? Probably because after all the work and time spent getting the line up and running they would sell a couple of hundred over the following year. They can sell a much larger number of plastic, fantastic guns in a day. While they continue to catalog the Model 41, which has a much larger audience in that it has some measure of utility beyond Bullseye Precision Pistol, when did you last see a new one on a dealer's shelf? Anything Bullseye related is pretty much a niche 'industry', parts for a gun that isn't all that common within that niche will only come from someone who has decided that they want to make them regardless of demand, perhaps just to show that they can do it better than has been done before. Most often those individuals who build something 'because they can' rather than because it insures financial success are the purveyors of products to the precision shooting sports. If one of them decides that he needs a barrel for his/her own model 52, it could happen but it is not likely to be done because the asking price for used ones on E-bay is up.

With CNC machining, it could be cataloged at some price and small runs done periodically.  It isn't that complex to make.  Since some of the accuracy issues in the 52 are basrrel fit up related, these can be adjusted in the machining.

if done correctly you would think they could improve the accuracy of the pistol... then everyone would want it which would means many to sell.

I spoke with Jim Clark about this at Perry and he is working with a rifle barrel manufacturer to get 1 in 10 blanks, then do the final work in his shop. No date as to when they would vbe available, but I'm on the list for one.
