Bullet Lube for .32 ACP Empty Bullet Lube for .32 ACP

Post by beeser Tue Jun 16, 2015 9:51 am

I've never lubed a bullet before but since I have an old RCBS Lube-A-Matic and now a need to size and lube some cast .32 ACP bullets I thought this would be a good time to get my feet wet.  If it makes any difference I purchased a .315 sizer from Buffalo Arms and a #444 RCBS top punch.  The only questions that remain are which bullet lube to use and is a heater needed.  Any suggestions?

I use the blue lube from Magma Casting with a heated base.
Seems to smoke less & no mess handling the bullets during loading.
Lyman orange does the same & smells better when sizing

I like White Label Canabera Red myself. It requires a little heat. You need to check out the http://castboolits.gunloads.com/  forum, there is a section of the forum just on Lubes.

Beeser,
It you want a lube that smokes less and handles well leads up your barrel and gives poor accuracy stick with the hard lubes like the blue stuff from Magma, or Orange Magic. If you want no leading and good accuracy especially in a Pardini use a soft lube like 50/50. You will have smoke and bullets will be sticky to handle but you X count will go up. White Label CR is somewhere in the middle.

Will this work?

White label is good stuff. I load some cast bullets in rifle calibers too so I like the 2500
+.  It does get a bit on your fingers and will melt off a little if it gets really hot out but it works well and come in the hollow sticks you need for your sizer.

Buy it direct from them and get a better price. Nice folks to deal with too. Family business.

I came on here to post the same question, but for the 32 S&W long. I currently use white label CR for 38's and 45's. Everything I have been reading says that slow velocity pistol loads benefit from a soft lube on the bullet, I am looking at SPG for the lube in my 32.

Does anyone have experience with SPG?

SPG is more typically used in black powder rounds. Bullets with big lube grooves and soft lubes to keep black powder fouling soft. It's probably not bad for low velocity pistol bullets but possibly not the best choice.

I ended up using Lyman's Alox bullet lube, which supposedly is a mix using the old NRA formula - 50% Beeswax and 50% Alox (I think).  I'm hoping it doesn't do any better than the hard lube used by the commercial guys because it was messy.

I use SPG for black  powder cartridge loads.. Other than the cost I would think it would work fine with pistol bullets at bullseye velocities.

Greetings,

I cast some 45 Colt bullets with 1:20 Tin:Lead alloy and lubed them with SPG.

I was pleased to see that it shot rather cleanly.

Cheers,

If the ALOX is the "old" NRAVformula an I was around when Ed Harrison published the formula, what does that make me?   Shocked Question

I don't know how good the NRA 50/50 or Lymans Alox version of it is performance wise but it sure smokes a lot.
