Ruger 1911 grip safety Empty Ruger 1911 grip safety

My good wife of over 50 years wished a shorter trigger in her "fun" light-weight Ruger 1911 (6711) better to fit her hand/fingers.  Put in a short trigger that for all of the world looks like one straight out of a Colt from 1950.  The old load-only-three-rounds-first-time-after-work was, for the first time, just the right idea.

I expect a 1911 grip safety to have a protrusion that rotates out of the way of the trigger when the grip safety is depressed.  I also expect the grip safety to have a slightly shorter protrusion immediately below the safety protrusion that limits how far the trigger can go to the rear.  The latter protrusion appears to be gone or attenuated on the Ruger grip safety.  In other words, it may be that Ruger expects only the over-travel screw inside of the stock trigger to limit rear travel of the trigger.

She has a full weight 1911 in 9mm for bullseye, but I wonder if anyone has seen what I may be seeing.
Thanks,   Mac2

Ruger 1911 grip safety Empty Re: Ruger 1911 grip safety

The rest of the story: I fitted a new grip safety to the grip opening for same (in the Ruger) and then found that something inside of the frame prevented the lugs of the after-market grip safety from reaching the back of the Colt trigger.  Something not standard as I had used the same grip safety in a pre-war Colt frame after a set of C&C parts were installed.  The final solution was to remove the Colt short trigger from the Ruger (not having an adjustment for over travel) and to replace it with a fitted short trigger that does have an over travel adjustment, setting the over travel screw to about the same place as seen on the original long Ruger trigger, and reinstalling the Ruger grip Safety.  No sign of doubling.  Some 1911 frames are other than expected.
