SOLD! - Springfield Range Officer Accurized by Dave Salyer

Post by csdickson23 on Wed Jul 01, 2015 11:47 am

Springfield Range Officer purchased in September 2012 and then sent to Dave Salyer to be accurized and converted into a bullseye wad gun. This pistol shoots very well and has been 100% reliable.  I am currently shooting expert scores with it, but I saw a new pistol on Gunbroker that I just had to have and I need to sell this pistol to stay happily married.  Asking $1150 for pistol, 2 blue steel Springfield mags and 1" Ultradot as pictured.

For a happy marriage just figure every pistol you buy costs twice what you paid for it. My wife ALWAYS gets even. lol!

My wife said if she gets one more gun, I may end up with a new fur coat.  I think she has figured me out.

Definition of Hell:

When I die my wife sells my guns for what I told her paid for them.

Scale:

Couple of hundred 800-1000

Not much 1000-2000

It was not cheap but.... 2000-3000

More than I wanted but........+3000

You guys are turning this poor fellow's ad into a standup comedy.  It actually looks like a good buy for someone, depending on what Salyer did to it.  I knew Dave in Virginia and he does good work.

Thank you for your kind words Dr. Don, but I have actually been enjoying the responses to my ad.  It's good to know that I am not the first person to have similar conversations with my wife!

As for the accurized Range Officer, it does shoot very well, but it is a $1200 pistol not a $2400+ pistol.  Dave's test target that he sent me was 5 shots offhand at 25 yards not from a ransom rest.  So yes I do believe it is a very good buy.

Thanks, Craig Dickson

Well, since you don't mind (and are being bumped back to the top). I would point out to rich.tullo that he missed a big one in his scale.

" it was a good investment"       5,000 +

I don't buy at $5k+, but I might sell in that range, if I bought something for "investment only."

Craig,
If Dave worked it over, the gun is more than capable of setting a new national record if you do your part.  So if your gunbroker item is an attempt to get a better gun, Good Luck with that.

I've got a cousin who lives in that area.  I'll see if he wants a wad gun.

Dan,

I "know" your are correct, but I didn't have Dave do his complete overhaul because the Range Officer is inherently more accurate than your typical target 1911, so to make this gun a national record setter, you might want to tweak it further.

I used to play a lot of golf before I got into shooting, and I have found many "high handicap" bullseye shooters (like myself) are very similar to amateur golfers . . . we are very attracted to that shiny new driver because we are sure that will be the answer to shaving 18 more strokes of our score!

Like I said, I "know" better and I am practicing several times per week, but as I believe Lee Trevino said so succinctly "The longest distance on the golf course (largest wobble in bullseye?) is the six inches between your ears."
