New Stapler? Empty New Stapler?

Post by Fire Escape 7/18/2015, 7:42 am

My 20 (?) year old Arrow stapler has begun having jambs and feed problems. It could be related to trying to use the last 'short rounds' of ammo but I wondered what might be the latest and greatest that you guys are using. This might be one time when I could upgrade to world class shooting gear without crying too much about price.

What is out there that I should consider?

I have two staplers.

When the boards are pretty shot up, I use what I call the backwards stapler where the hinge is at the heel of the stapler and it is a lot easier.

I always have a hammer tacker loaded with staples for practice.  That way, I can post a bunch of targets quickly if the particle board is in decent shape.

I carried a heavy duty Arrow T50 for 2 years, decided I didn't need the big "caliber" besides my hand got tired by the end of the 45 match. Switched to an Arrow JT-21M which uses both the JT-21 & T-27 staples. Much lighter and much easier to use.

If you want something to last for another 20 years, get the big heavy T50 roofing stapler. I've had 3 or 4 of the lighter easier to use staplers and they all break after 2-3 years. The rusty, ugly hard to use stapler my dad used to insulate and roof our house 40 years ago is still going strong.

many of us use these from hobby lobby, they are light weight, durable and use standard j-21 staples, 10 bucks, they also sell the staples for 1.99 for a box of 1k

I got the Stanley TR45K Light Duty Stapler from Amazon. It has done well for two years with no issues and isn't a killer to squeeze.

I've been using the same red JT-21 since 1988. Still going strong. Got a couple of chrome JT-21Ms around they work fine too.

I also use the TR45K. Works just fine and is light but not cheap feeling.

Stanley works with jt21 staples.
Think arrow owned by Stanley now.

Please don't use the T-50s, please use the JT-21 or equivalent.

The folks who reface your targets will thank you.

This is what you need. When you think of all the time we spend stapling targets this can really help the match run faster.

Not recommended.  Did you see a "staple" fly back at 3:55.

Oh I see that now.  If we could do that with our 45 we wouldn't need to load so much.

At Camp Perry I heard of an "oh crap" adapter for the 1911 that if you could say "oh crap" before a bad shot hit the target, the adapter would retrieve the bullet and reload it for you to try again.

I chose a fairly light weight Arrow TruTrac 'backwards' stapler and will see how that works out. It takes the JT-21 staples (came with not even 1 staple included!) and will fit in my fairly small range bag. Our target frames are not very fancy or substantial, a square of cardboard attached to a 1 x 3 strapping frame so I expect that this will have enough power. Yesterday was 'Youth Program' day at the range, stick on 'Shoot'n See' targets for instant feedback so I have yet to staple a target with the new toy. I will pick up a new box of staples for the old T-55 at some point as it will probably feed OK with longer 'sticks' than the dregs of the box that has bounced around for thousands of miles in the range bag and it should be better for attaching the cardboard when needed.
Thanks for the advice and it is always fun to see Jerry in action.

Perhaps you could just buy another Arrow stapler, but then send it to Jon, Jerry or Dave and have some work done to it. I would get a nice roll trigger job  done and then have some work done where the staple goes into the chamber to assure a nice ramp and load. Finally, you will need it drilled and tapped for a nice Aimpoint, 4mm of course, mounted on top. Anything short of these mods would be embarrassing to be seen with at the range.

Yes! And have Froneck put an aluminum bronze trigger shoe on it. That will allow incremental adjustments for pull, deflection, interception, perception and variable depth procrastination.

Your welcome in advance!

I just want one that has a big flag pop up and say " your almost out of staples stupid" the stupid part is that I never notice that the last 20 staples were red and I was ignoring them.
