Mould for Magnus 185 SWC Button?

Post by beeser on Mon Nov 16, 2015 4:36 pm

Is there a mould for the Magnus 185 SWC Button bullet or is it a proprietary design.  Magnus shows it as an improved H&G 130.

terry said his mold was a copy of the Remington 185 fmj-swc that was such a great shooting factory bullet. It is also flat based, not beveled like most 185s

Thanks.  The Missouri Bullet .45 ACP Button is also flat based but has a larger diameter frontal cone.  The lube groove is also larger.  I don't know which is better but I like the looks of the Magnus.  A friend of mine has an H&G mould for the 130 but it's bevel based.

Hey Beeser,

That large diameter frontal cone is called a melpat.

I have never seen a mold like Magnus uses but it's one heck of a bullet .

We used Remington and Winchester for design. We own the cherry to cut the molds. Magma makes them for us.Missouri bullet is the mold magma produces in their line. A true hg130 design. Nose too large. Our copy moves metal from nose to the base. Much more accurate at 50 yds.
I shot 2658 with them and 200 gr hg 168 style.

If "much more accurate at 50 yds." why 200 gr. HG68 style?

I agree, Magnus makes some nice bullets and customer service is top notch.

Some barrels like 200 gr better. Also 200 loads hotter, helps with undeveloped follow thru. Leaves barrel faster with hotter load.

Terry,
Ever consider a 200 gr. button the same design as your #801?

lol!  Sometimes I feel dyslexic. Maybe that's why my shots hit the fringe scoring rings and not the 10.
