1911 recoil spring question Empty 1911 recoil spring question

Post by joy2shoot 9/13/2016, 6:33 pm

I am familiar, and in agreement, with the philosophy that says find a load (powder, bullet, etc) that is accurate with your 1911 and then find the correct poundage recoil spring that will work with the charge to make the gun function.  Some of the symptoms of a spring that is too strong (for the charge) is stove pipes, failure to eject, failure to lock the slide back on last round, etc.  However, what are the symptoms of a spring that is too weak?  The only one I can think of is failure to strip a round from the mag and chamber it.

Thanks.

Shell casing striking wall 15' away. Excessive felt recoil.

What Len said, when your cases knock your shell catcher over with force.

Hmm, I would not have expected that with a recoil spring that is too weak.

Weak spring will allow to come out of battery too fast. 25 yds not so bad, but at 50 yds you'll have no groups. They'll be every where but where you want them Smile
