Hi,

I am having an occasional problem with my Walther GSP .22 failing to pick up a round out of the magazine. It happens with both magazines. Here is what I have done so far.

 - Regular cleaning of the chamber with a .25 cal brush.
 - New magazine springs.
 - New extractor.
 - New reduced power recoil spring.
 - The problem occurs with both TAC .22 (RWS) & Federal target ammo.

I am about to send it off to Earls Repair Service but before I do so I'd be interested if anyone on the forum has some ideas.

FWIW the .32 slide works perfectly.

Thanks, Paul.

I have found TAC to be under powered having the same issue in my GSP when compared to CCI SV. I believe you are just have a ammo issue.

Before you send it in to service, I agree with 6mmppc that the ammo you are using might be underpowered.  I assume that these magazines have a history of reliable operation.

What may be happening is that the bolt is "short stroking" whereas the recoil is pushing the bolt far enough back to eject the empty but not far enough back to catch the rim of the next round in the chamber.

I have this problem with my pardini when using Eley Target and Eley Sport, especially during cold weather or when the ammo is cold.  In my instance, using wolf match target cleared the problem with the firearm operating at 100 percent reliability.  First trouble shoot check would be to try some different ammo.

Another easy check would be the magazine spring might be wore out such that it is not pushing the next round up far enough such that it can get in position in time for the bolt to catch it.  Second troubleshooting check would be to replace the magazine spring.

Third check (or maybe the first) would be to visibly inspect the operation of the magazine such that nothing is worn out whereas the magazine is positioning the next round in position for the bolt to catch it provided it travels far enough back to catch it.  This can be checked by inspecting the operation and cycling while manually cycling the firearm.  Be careful and take all safety precautions when performing this task since it will require cycling live ammunition.

Hope this gives you some idea's and good luck!

Sincerely,
Cranky
