S&W Victory Empty S&W Victory

Post by jmdavis 6/14/2016, 10:16 am

I shot a Victory Sunday and I was very impressed. If the model that I shot is an indication, S&W has this one RIGHT. The trigger was VERY useable right out of the box (and this one was just out of the box, having been purchased at Cabelas this weekend).

If I were buying a first gun for Bullseye in the sub-$400 range this would be it.

Had a league shooter who just purchased same, and was asked if this gun is legal for the Distinguished 22 matches, since it has an imbeded plastic green indicator as the front sight?  Since factory configuration, assume this would fit the bill as an acceptable firearm for the .22 Distinguished matches?

I responded to this a couple of hours ago and said "nope". Then I read the 2016 rules and deleted the first response. Last year the fiber optic in the front sight was a definite no. They must have changed the rules or my memory is starting to go. This years rules don't say anything about the front sight except that it can't be extended. I even purchased a new front sight for my Browning knowing that it wouldn't be legal with the original sights. They must have got a lot of feedback and changed it. (or my memory sucks) This year the way the rules read I would say that you are correct in your assumption. But you know what they say about assumptions.

They underlined the rule change for service pistol matches and fiber optic sights are allowed there this year also.

The 180 on the rules is funny to me. I remember when my ball gun wouldn't qualify because the grip screws were allen head type instead of slotted.

I think they got a bunch of pressure from the mfg. because the CMP original intent of allowing all these other guns in the EIC match was to increase participation.  Well several guns on that list come stock with fiber optic sights, the Springfield XD(M) being one of them.  It doesn't make any sense if you are trying to make it easier to enter then require someone to replace the factory sight.  They probably won't enter with that gun.

Interesting how Springfield is giving away up to 20 of their model XDM 5.25 if you make the P100 shooting an XD(M) in the match.

That's at least $10,000 in prizes if they are all given away, no matter why this happened this is great for the sport.
