Quality of moonclips or half-moon clips for 25-2?

Post by Bruce in WV on Sat May 21, 2016 8:41 pm

Will the choice of material - metal or polymer - for moonclips or half-moon clips in my 25-2 make a difference in scores? The polymer are much easier to handle, but are not as rigid. Does that make a difference after the cylinder is closed?

I have never used poly but I will say that good quality steel is a must You have to make sure they are straight (flat). One bent tab will drag you double action pull to the twenty pound range.

I shoot my 25-2 with the full and half moons. Like the full for fast reloads but half are good for plinking. I once competed with a S&W  627 8 shot. I bought those moon clips from Dillon and was very pleased with them. Loading tool and the unloading tool will make your life easier and prevent bending clips as you load them up.

Just my 2 cents... wort 1.75.

I use both the steel and the polymer moon clips in my 625 and my 325.

I think both are good. I can shoot good groups off a sandbag with either one.

I shoot single action only so I can't comment on double action trigger increasing.

Steel, own 30 full clips. I don't have any 1/2 clips. The tool is a must and so is learning the roll when loading clips.

Ranch products sell steel Moon clips directly and work flawlessly in my 625-8, they offer dual clips as well which holds two rounds... For regular range practice or possibly Bullseye I am switching to auto rim so no more Moon clips will be required.

Why? I have several hundred Auto rim for my 25-2 but I load them "hot" and save them for hunting. When I get to a BE match I don't want anyone to wait on me while I fumble around loading 1 (or 2) at a time. Sometimes that is not a problem when half the line is shooting wheel guns but I like to come prepared. Now I get to wait on those slow-pokes to fill their magazines. All it takes is 24 clips to shoot the 45 and the Reeves match.

MY BUDDY AND I HAVE .45 PPC REVOLVERS. WE'VE TRIED ABOUT ALL OF THEM. THE MOONCLIPS FROM MOONCLIPS.COM (TOM KILLHOFFER)ARE LEAPS AND BOUNDS ABOVE THE REST FOR BEING CONSISTENT. ALSO THE BETTER MOUSE TRAP (BMT)MOONER AND DE-MOONER ( ALL IN ONE) IS THE BEST I'VE EVER USED. JP
