Mud Flap Thumb Safety Empty Mud Flap Thumb Safety

Running a Nelson conversion on a upscale 1911 frame with big mud flap thumb safeties.   I've always held my thumb high.  It touches these mud flap parts.  I notice the contact when I grip the gun.   I'm taking them off and fitting old standard parts.

I'm lucky and never had a problem with hammer bite from a standard grip safety. I understand that many people do, therefore the beavertail grip safety, but it does seem that some manufacturers have gone far beyond the practical aspect and made them much larger than needed. I think it might be more of a style (cool factor) look instead of just the minimum needed.

I think he ment thumb safety as the title says. He is soon to be a grand Senior so I think he lost his train of thought as he was trying to describe his thoughts.
I'm just glad he shows up for the match and every now and then passes on some good advice on shooting.

Dang!  Is getting old &%$! or what?  Looked a bit for standard safeties.  Looks like I'll be cutting down an extended one..
