Price check; Model 52-2 S&W

One of our Bullseye guys has an unfired, NIB S&W Model 52-2 with three mags, all the paperwork, bushing wrench, and box. The pistol is still wrapped in the original wax paper. He picked it up about 9 years ago and it has been in his gun safe ever since. No photos, but the pistol is pristine.

Any idea on price?

$1,200 if you plan to shoot it.  A collector might pay $1,600+ for it.

I've owned several Model 52s, bought & sold several. Best handgun ever made by S&W. Donning & Blsi2600 are right in the market.
The last 52-2 that I sold was purchased off of the original owner, but had been fired. It had paper work, owner's manual, treated paper, barrel wrench & screwdriver in unopened plastic bag and original receipt of $278.00.
I paid $1,400 for it, shot it in a few matches and sold it a year or two later on Gun Broker for $1,600 and that's been about eight years ago.
I've seen several 52s as the one you described bring $2,200-2,500. Unfired & all original accessories are key to commanding those prices. Having said this, it all comes down to what you as a buyer are willing to pay for it. But, as a footnote, the value of Model 52s are probably going to increase rather than decrease.

Thanks guys.  I figured $1600 but we'll see what happens if he decides to list it on Gunbroker.  I'll let him know the price range you described.

You might get collector interest on the S&W Forum. Collectors are willing to pay more for a pristine pistol than someone wanting it to shoot.

I second BE Mike's suggestion. Try smith-wessonforum.com. The collectors are rabid about old S&Ws, which makes it challenging to find bargains on something for competition shooting.

I just found an original barrel weight set for my 52-2.  Paid 100.00 but they are like hens teeth from what I hear.

here in Puerto Rico the 52's are extra-Mega scarce and found one is for $800-$1400.00+. here the person buy scratches 52's with rust,but the important is a 52 in the hand.

You stole the weight set. They are getting like 41 weights

Thanks for the help guys.  I put the info on the S&W forum with the serial number.  It is an early 52-2; around 1968.  The owner says the bluing is like looking into a mirror.  Not sure if he's going to sell it or keep it for a while, but he is definitely not going to shoot it.

Seems like the one I got for $950 NIB was quite a deal. It's my favorite and I can't bear to mess with it so it's metallic sights only....

It does not have to be steel sights only. I paid 1000.00 for this 52 no dash. I had to take it apart to find any evidence that it had ever been fired. I could not bring myself to drill into it. I also wanted to be able to hit something with it so that meant it needed to have a dot mounted. I reached out to this forum and a member had the perfect solution. This sight mount from Leupold has 4 connection points and is rock solid. They are in current production so not impossible to find. I thought you might be interested. I'm still kicking myself for letting one on gun broker getaway with this already on it. It went for around a grand with several metal follower mags. Lost it by a few bucks:( My concern is I had something similar on a 1911 and it marred the finish. I just need to find another 52-2....

I won't be making Canton.. That 52 will be there.. I should arrive at Perry on the 13th.. We are staying thru the 45 match on Sat..

I sold this M52-2 for $1500. about 4 years ago.
99% condition with box, papers, tool kit, original grips and two magazines.
Dot and BME mount not included, they reside on my M52-1 that I shoot now for CF.
