Update on load vs springs RO

Ok - maybe this belongs in ammunition, maybe it belongs is fundamentals... I don't know. But here is a new thread as an update as to how the Ammo/spring testing is going. I'm using 3.5 gr of BE with an 11 # recoil spring, and a 28 # hammer spring, flat firing pin stop plate, and a trigger now just a touch under 4#. 

Timed fire looks ugly. 93/94. Some wild shots. I can't seem to recover fast enough. I'm always late on the last shot of rapid fire. Can't make the buzzer. Groups are even worse there. Tested the load off sand bags and I know it ain't the ammo. Definitely me. It does recoil a bit better but not much and I wish it were better.

A touch under 4?? if you plan to shoot CMP then it needs to be min. of 4 if your just shooting bullseye drop it back to 3.5 then at least you will benefit more for bullseye or be more use to what is legal for ball matches. Why such a strong mainspring, most say 19 is the preferred in target pistols. the square firing pin stop is useless with light loads imo, it was designed to slow the slide down when running hot factory 230 fmj ammo. A reason you may be having issues in recovery. If you put a 19# MS in and regular FPS I think you would have a more manageable gun.

I'm no expert but a 28 lb hammer spring sounds heavy. I believe 19 or 20 is more common. If the 11 lb recoil spring allows the empties to eject cleanly, try a 12 lb or 13.

Something you are forgetting, you are shooting a stock barrel in the RO. Even though some fit fairly decent, it comes out of battery too fast. Really no different than old school welded up barrel BE pistol from 1970's. So you are chasing the wind
Every time I have the chance to shoot an old school pistol I do, but I do it along side a modern BE pistol for comparison. Modern pistol with proper fitting barrel will always recoil less than the older pistol. I've shot Clark, Dinan, Giles, Shockey, and others. They all kick like hell with the same load as the one being fired in modern BE pistol. Having said that, yes those pistols can still shoot good groups at 50 yds, but they will beat up the shooter. Your RO will never be as pleasant to shoot compared to a RO that has been fit with a Kart barrel. You can help it with firing pin stop and mainspring, but the barrel lock up has the most effect on lowering recoil. And just to make it clear, it's not the Kart, it's how its fit. Oversized upper lugs properly fit.

If I can't control the gun like it is then I won't be shooting CMP anytime soon. That's why I lowered the trigger weight. I also added a Herret heal rest grip. That helped. I used a heavy hammer spring to try to slow down the slide. Or something like that. I may try a lighter hammer spring but it looks like this gun has a future in Jons shop for a barrel replacement and fit.
