Starline 38 spl brass ? Empty Starline 38 spl brass ?

Post by rebs 8/24/2016, 7:50 am

I bought some brand new starline 38 brass. When I loaded it I run it through a carbide sizer die and it was kind of hard to run through. Is this normal for new starline brass ? I didn't lube it since it is a carbide die.

Normal for new brass, I always lube my brass (new and reloaded) and I exclusively use carbide dies.  It just makes life easier.

Thank you.
I normally just lube rifle cases and make my own lube with 100% liquid lanolin and HEET fuel line de icer which evaporates quickly leaving the cases with a nice coat of the lanolin. This is almost the same formula as Dillon case lube.
Next time I'll take your advise and lube the pistol cases as well.

An alternative is to simply polish the brass in your tumbler AND use a bit of car polish in it. I use NuFinish and it works great.. leaves a slight film on the brass

I polish my fired brass that way, never thought of doing it with brand new brass

Also, if you are using a Dillon press, cleaning your new brass before reloading it will reduce the likelihood/severity of the powder funnel getting stuck in the new brass when you charge your case.
