Post by Tim:H11 on Mon Aug 08, 2016 9:53 am

Anybody got a Rock Island frame kicking around that they don't want or need? Government size please.

Not looking to build a high quality gun. Just need a frame for a learning tool.

Are you learning to make a good frame better or trying to make a reject acceptable???

I used to own a rock island and it was a decent shooter. A plinker at best and certainly not a competive pistol by any means but a solid reliable gun none the less. I don't know why they are viewed as having bad frames. I want to build a 1911 for the first time. It may not turn out to be a competitive gun but maybe some day it might if I learn how to work on them and do it over time and time again until I get it right. If I'm gonna learn I gotta start somewhere.

buy a $100 Foster right now from Caspian.. you'll be forced to learn how to fit the frame rails but if you intend to build some wad guns eventually then you'll have to do it sometime...

I don't have the expertise to understand why a Foster is a reject, but to the unwashed and uneducated, they look pretty good.   Much better than the RIA "Firsts"

Fosters all vary as to why they are 2nds. Sometimes very obvious and other times you wouldn't know unless seasoned pistolsmith. I have one that had a small pock mark on tang from casting. In most cases excellent receivers.

I just got a gun with a caspian frame I don't want. Any interest? It has really crude stippling on it. Fully assembled lower with good trigger and nice grips, $300 plus shipping.

I wish I could. That would set me up but it's not really in the budget. Pictures though?

Here ya go. Nice frame, just ugly and I really want something that says Colt on it (even though colt frames are WAY cruder than Caspian) to match the slide. I'm weird like that.
