HODGDON TITEGROUP Empty HODGDON TITEGROUP

Post by Allen Barnett Mon Jun 27, 2016 3:49 pm

Does anyone have a magical mystical voodoo load using Hodgdon Titegroup and 185 grain bullets?  I haven't seen much talk about any of the Hodgdon powders but before I rush out and buy something different I thought I would see what experience(s) anybody might have.  Most of my reloading experience is with rifle and I am a huge fan of Hodgdon powders.

Hi Allen,
My loads:
185gr Lead SWC (H&G 130 style) = 4.2gr TiteGroup
185gr Jacketed HP (Nosler, Montana Gold) = 4.5gr TiteGroup
Hope this helps,
Wes

Wes:
Thanks for sharing.  Your suggestions are right about where I was thinking things should be.  Loaded up 50 rounds with 4.5 grains under a Sierra 185 grain Tournament Master for some "bench" testing.  I'll be back with results but probably not for several days, lets see golf tomorrow, plummer on Wednesday, maybe I can get back to the range on Thursday.

HODGDON TITEGROUP Empty H&G 130 seat die?

Post by Russ OR Mon Jun 27, 2016 10:51 pm

Wes,  You mentioned H&G 130 lead bullets. What seat die do you use for that bullet? -- - I use a Dillon 550B.
Thanks, Russ

Well I wish I could figure out how to post pictures as they are worth a thousand words.  Anyhow my testing resulted in a 10 shot grouping that holds x-ring at 50 yards over sandbags.  If only I could shoot that good offhand.

The load I came up with was:
   4.1 gr Titegroup
   185 gr Sierra Tournament Master
   Virgin Starline brass
   Federal Large Pistol Match Primer
   COL of 1.151
   Crimp of .4715
My wad gun is setup with a 12 lb recoil spring and 15 lb mainspring with
a slide mounted Millet 1 inch red dot and a Bo-mar tuner
This load held just under x-ring groups at 50 yards shot over sandbags
