Drilling/Tapping 1911 slide Empty Drilling/Tapping 1911 slide

Post by dfhawkins 10/1/2016, 9:02 pm

Has anyone had experience with a gunsmith in the North Central Florida area? I need a 1911 slide drilled and tapped for a sight rail. There are gun smiths around the Gainesville, FL area that specialize in USPSA and IPSC guns, but I would like to find a smith that understands Bullseye shooters and their needs.

Not to be nonchalant about it but any good machinist could easily drill and tap a slide for you as long as you can show him what you want.

It wouldn't require a BE specialist either. It would be a simple task for any skilled gunsmith.

skilled is the keyword.  A new shooter on this forum had a slide driller and taped by a gunsmith, was crooked and screws were undersized. I believe Jerry helped this shooter out by redoing it correctly.

Skilled is the key word. There are many shade tree gunsmiths around. On the other hand, a machinist could do this easily if you provide the base.

Thanks to all for the responses. Chris, you mentioned Jerry. Is he a local gunsmith in Florida with Bullseye pistol skills worth engaging? If so, are you able to share his contact info?

Jerry = Jerry Keefer a retired ? bullseye smith out of VA. He actively posts On this forum. If you don't know anyone in your area, a slide can easily be shipped to a gunsmith found on this forum. There are several qualified smiths and bullseye gunsmiths around the country with different prices and wait times. I like to work with ones that contribute to this forum.

Check out the American pistol smiths website might have a smith near you.

Some of the smiths here like Jerry do not do work for the general public or forum members.
