Dot fades on sunny days? :(

I've got a Ruger with a dot on it and I play around with it from time to time mainly to stay used to it because it's my back up 22. But I noticed that depending on the brightness of the sun my dot fades. I've tried new batteries and no difference. Is there a lens or something like sunglasses to keep the dot from fading in bright days?

UltraDots come with a filter (polarized lenses). If it isn't an UD, you can try good quality sunglasses.

If it doesn't have a brightness setting then it probably has an light sensor that would adjust the dot brightness.  Check to see if it obstructed/dirty which would make it think it's dark outside and dim the dot.

If there is no light sensor you are SOL - time for a new dot.

try rubber banding a piece of panty hose to front of the scope.  This will darken the target and make the dot brighter.

It's a cheap Bushnell Trophy. It's got different redicals like a target or a dot or a cross but it loses zero if changed. I leave it on the dot and have to use it on its brightest setting. And still it's not as bright as I thought it would be. It was on my backup Ruger, but now I'm toying with it on my Nelson. I think I'm gonna save up for an ultra dot.

Tim,  I have an older worn 1" ultra dot that I can sell you for $65 +$10 shipping.  It came on a used Les Baer and I prefer the 30mm so I swapped it out.  It includes polarizer and stock rings plus a brand new set of Leopold rings.   I was not sure if it was holding zero, but bench testing seems to indicate it is.  If you try it and if you decide it is not working, I'll refund the $65.

Some people used to use a piece of panty hose over the objective end. They said it worked, but I never tried it.

Aimpoint micro has 50% brighter  dot at highest setting than ultradot  so that's another option

I have a lot of them but nothing for a Bushnell.

Contact Bushnell and see if they have filters available for your sight.
