The Desert Midwinter looks like a lot of fun. I am going to try to make it. Will the Service Pistol 900 go by the current NRA rules that require a 230 FMJ, or will we be allowed to shoot 185 JHP?

This might become a fun topic to watch.

Of course the NRA has not kept up with the current CMP rules. Check out the reference number in the NRA rules in the Service Pistol section.

The current CMP Rules (2016 20th Edition of the CMP Competition Rules for Service Rifle and Service Pistol) do not have the 230 gr requirement anymore, just "any safe jacketed ammunition".

However the CMP Games Rules (2016 4th Edition of the CMP Competition Rules for CMP Games Rifle and Pistol Matches) for "As Issued Service Pistols" do require 230 gr FMJ.

So the NRA should make a correction and specify the specific CMP rule.  Alternatively, the match program for Phoenix should specify the ammunition allowed (matches can have certain special requirements if they are in the match program and / or posted and announced before firing begins).

I've got the popcorn in the microwave and just waiting for the discussion to begin.

I know from speaking with Don Plante, the match is supposed to be with REAL HARDBALL! But its not enforced. I've always just shot factory ball.

We need a return of the Florida Midwinter matches or even Alabama or Mississippi.

REAL HARDBALL!!!

I'm game for that, but everyone's 230 FMJ better chrono an average of 850fps!

I spoke to Don yesterday. We will be using CMP rules. I have attached the ammo section from the 2016 manual.

6.5.2 Pistol Ammunition • Service Pistol. Service Pistol competitors may use any safe ammunition that is loaded with metal-jacketed bullets. Non-jacketed, wad-cutter or lead bullets may not be used

Stay tuned, a flyer will follow announcing what pistols will be awarded as prizes.
