Custom Pardini .32 ACP Barrel Interest

Post by Jon Eulette on Fri Nov 04, 2016 1:34 am

I've been asked by several shooters to make .32 ACP barrels. I recently made a few in .32 S&W; 1 Pardini & 1 GSP. Don't have enough info yet on performance. I used 0.311" bore 1:9.5 twist chromoly barrel with custom minimum dimension finish reamer.
What I would like to know is how many people are interested in possibly purchasing a Custom Barrel with 0.311" bore 1:10 twist with Match minimum dimension chamber?
I don't have a price yet. This is just to see how much interest there is.
Thanks
Jon

Jon,
Consider making 32 S&W barrels for Benelli as well. Looks to me like it would be easy to make. You could count me as one who would be interested.

Jon,
Does barrel mean just the actual barrel or barrel with shroud that is ready to attach to a frame?  If ready to mount, I have interest.

I would be interested. It would seem to solve a lot of the problems folks have encountered shooting lead bullets in stock Pardini barrels, and hopefully open up the bullet selection from just the one LWSC and pricey Hornady XTPs. Pardini really seemed to take laziest path by just taking their unchambered .314 .32swl barrels and just running a .32acp chamber reamer through them.

I might be interested. Depends on price, Performance results on the ones you built already. Ease of installation, etc.

Never mind. What I really want is for Nelson to make a blow back operated upper (32 acp) for a 1911. Wouldn't that be neat?

Len,

There was a guy who posted on a Targettalk thread pertaining to CF pistols a couple pictures of what you describe:
a 1911 converted to blowback operation for 32 (S&W WC though).

I've searched their archives for it a couple times, found it once some time ago.  No luck now!

Thanks, I will look for it today. I was just going to sit around and mope all day anyhow. My Oregon ducks sorta sucked yesterday. Sad

I emailed Volquartsen about a similar idea - converting one of their LLV units to .32 ACP.  I asked about barrel changes for the conversion and they never responded.   Laughing

At the risk of drifting a bit off topic, (sorry!) there was a well known gunsmith shop out of Prescott AZ that, back in the 60s I think, built 32 WC target pistols out of Ruger MKIs!
George Nonte very briefly mentions this type of modification in his book "Pistolsmithing".
A unique part of the work is the use of a large weight attached to the rear of the bolt.

Jon, Can you educate the less informed? (meaning me). When you say barrel, do you mean just the barrel, not the shroud? How would the shooter change it. Gunsmith only? mpolans implied that the Pardini .314 barrel is not optimum. Can you expand on that? Would your proposed barrel limit ammo choices or expand them? What would the expectation be on accuracy. Thanks.

Well basically it has been proven by others that a faster twist and tighter bore than standard .32 S&W Long/.32 ACP will shoot better at 50 yds. I don't have many details now, just looking at interest from shooters whether they would be interested in custom barrel with minimum dimension chamber. If it could be a drop in installation that would be great an is my goal. It would be barrel only. I'm mostly interested in just making ACP barrels. Still up in the air on some details.

Thank you. Put me on the "interested" list.

It sounds like it may open up the opportunity for shooters to use the jacketed, accurate bullet for maximum long line accuracy and, perhaps, less expensive bullets for the short line. Like I do (and many others) for .45.

Keep us informed.

Re: Custom Pardini .32 ACP Barrel Interest

Jon,
My interest is dependent upon the solution being "drop in installation".  I know someone who needed a barrel replacement on his Pardini HP (.32ACP) and it was not really practical to remove a barrel from the shroud.  I'm not a gunsmith nor particularly familiar with adhesives so I would be looking for an assembly that would mount just like the one in the conversion unit.

I see two potential reasons to covert to a new barel: 1) Accuracy improvment. 2) Use of cheaper bullets. If there is another, I'd like to hear it.

A little bit more accuracy would be nice and I'd be interested for this reason. I'm no Master so it probably won't make much difference to my scores.  It wouldn't be the first time I spent money hoping for magic.  I think the gun is already pretty close to 50yd X-ring accurate.

Regarding cheaper bullets, the logic is not compelling.  Basically, my .22LR and .32ACP scores are identical.  Therefore all my live-fire practice with this gun is done using far cheaper .22LR ammo.  The additional reloading setup cost for using a LSWC bullet would be difficult to recoup in any reasonable timeframe shooting it only at 25yds in matches.  Maybe if I wasn't so old...

This is absolutely not a criticism of what you are proposing.  I'm just trying to be specific and precise about my personal interest in such a thing.
