Strong Brand Pistol Boxes Empty Strong Brand Pistol Boxes

Post by Jon Math 12/12/2016, 12:47 pm

It seems most websites including their own direct site has them listed as out of stock.  Are they being redesigned-discontinued or are they only made a couple of times a year and it’s a get them while you can type item?

They seem like one of the nicer products out there, or are their better options?

Thanks

Thanks.  I have found similar results with the Strong availability, I’ll check the ones at Larry’s out.

I spoke to them a couple of years ago and you are correct. They only make them a couple of times a year. I got mine and they are nice quality but gun cases aren't their main business.

I did recently get an email from them recently stating they were in the process of making the #1608 box( 3 gun) so one would think they should be  back in stock soon

Strong Case still has the 1812 listed as "in stock". It's big but doesn't get blown over in a gust of wind. I ended up getting the add on tray for my 1608. I should have just got the 1812 to start with.    http://strongcasellc.com/

I bought the 1812. I don't remember where I ordered it from. Seems they only had the 4 gun in stock. Big case, but I have lots of room. Usually bring 3 guns to the matches I shoot in. It is very nice.

I might be missing something.  When you close the lid on the case doesn’t the spotting scope nest under the drawer for the handguns?

Do you put anything else in the case, if you did not have the add on drawer assembly?  I was assuming you’d still need a range bag for the rest of your ammo, spare magazines, tools, hearing muffs etc.  Or does all that stuff fit in the pistol box?

Even with the scope attached there is room in the lower compartment for enough ammo for many matches. When I am at a 2700 with EIC matches I need an extra bag anyway, but for regular league type matches there is plenty of space.

I bring an ammo box for my ammo. Three pistols, support equipment, and ammo makes a pretty heavy load to carry. I always bring more than I need.

I was watching some You Tube footage of some Marines on the line at Perry.  One had a box that looked like an aluminum suitcase.  It had a spotting scope mounted to the lid, but did not have the shielding effect the tall traditional boxes can offer for side wind protection, being wider based perhaps it is not as prone to being knocked over by that same wind. The Marines next to him had the normal / traditional cases.  I did see an Air Force shooter at an Inter-service shoot using a similar case so maybe they are something on the horizon or a fill in while Strong gets back into production.

the 1608 is the smaller of the two 3 gun cases they make... best is simply subjective to an individual.. I have a 1608 just because I got tired of carrying my old 4 gun Pachmyer around.. great case but its big.. For me if I have a large box I end up carrying a bunch of junk in it...

smaller box forces me to the essentials..

Went to a smaller more compact scope too.

You'll have to excuse my ignorance and inexperience, but I've asked this following question before about these cases and I don't think I've had a direct answer from anyone.

Seeing as people are discussing the Strongcases I figure it's at least relevant.

Range rules and range etiquette are to keep all firearms pointed down range and to never sweep anyone with the muzzle of a firearm.

At my range, the range officers will jump on you if a case is open and a muzzle is pointing the wrong way. They'll make you turn the case around before handling the firearm.

So, is this just where I shoot or everywhere? If it's the same rule everywhere, how do others at the firing line and behind the line feel about the pistols installed pointing backwards in these cases?

Do you change the case from one side of the table to the other to take the other pistols out?

i've never had an issue at any range or match where i had guns pointed in either direction in the box.  I leave a weedwacker cord in all my chambers so you can tell its not loaded.

It doesn't seem to matter which way the guns face when they are in the box so the answer to your question is that it's your range rules that are the anomaly.   I personally rebuilt my drawer so all the guns face down range but that was more to maximize the space and not really to make sure they faced that way.

I also think it is not so much that the gun in the box is pointed downrange, but to get it out of the box, the only way not to sweep the guy next to you is if it comes out of the box in that direction.

You could turn it upside and roll it over with out ever sweeping the line left or right of you with the muzzle. But I believe Weber is right in assuming the RO's in charge would probably expect a gun facing the wrong way to sweep the line and fellow shooters as the owner made an effort to get it pointed down range. But again it's easy to get it facing the right way and not sweep the line.

At Perry you don't need all 3 guns in the case at the same time, so it shouldn't be an issue.  As part of my process I always have the guns in the box pointed downrange.

It can sometimes be hard with big orthopedic style grips, but I like them pointing in the same direction if at all possible too.

While I think that's a good idea, cord or not, I don't ever want the business end of a pistol pointing at me if it can be helped. I shouldn't have to be in a position to check if the pistol was safe before complaining. Nor do I want to do it to others.

Tim:H11 wrote:... the RO's in charge would probably expect a gun facing the wrong way to sweep the line and fellow shooters ...

If your hand is on the gun, I don't want you sweeping me with it.

As soon as there are exceptions to when you sweep people with your firearm or not is when you open the door to mistakes.

Ultimately, to meet Canadian restricted weapons transportation rules I also need a box that can accommodate pistols with a trigger lock or cable lock installed. So that's another consideration. One that has ruled out many of the pistol specific cases I've looked at.

For the time being, I'll just stick with my Pelican case. Barely fits my pistol (and the depth seems to barely fit the trigger lock) and two mags. And if I open it up like a book with the hinge on the left, it's always pointing away from me.
