Air Pistol Match in Bloomer, Wi April 8th 2017

Post by ChipEck on 12/17/2016, 4:11 pm

While not directly Bullseye related, I suspect a number of Bullseye shooters also shoot air pistols to practice for Bullseye.
I could not find even a single Air Pistol match in Wisconsin or Minnesota...so we are going to run one!

No joke, after not being able to find any matches Jim Ruch and I decided to run one ourselves. We met with Jerry Wilder, who was a well known International and Olympic Pistol Shooter back when he lived in Indiana. Jerry gave us a lot of good advice.

More details to follow, but it will be Saturday, April 8th, 2017 at the Bloomer Rod & Gun in Bloomer, Wisconsin.
We will be shooting on 4 bullseye targets since we do not have target return system.
We can accommodate relays of 12.
We will have awards.
Event will be 60 rounds in 70 minutes (with time to retrieve/replace targets).

The cost will be $8 for main event.

We will have a SIUS lane set up to run a seperate best shot event.
This will be $2 for five shots. The closest to 10.9 wins the entire pot.
In the event of a tie the pot will be split.

There is a hotel just two miles away. Much more to follow.

Chip;
Could you explain the 4 bullseye targets so I know what to expect ?
You can plan on me being there.
Only a two hour drive.

Thanks;

How many shots per bull ?
5 each for 3 targets.(60 shots)
15 each for 1 target.(60 shots)

That is my real question, sorry for being a pest Smile

No problem.  Five shots on each bull.  So each shooter will go through three targets.  Plus a fourth for practice/sighters.  Make sense?

We will also have a commercial SIUS unit set up for a "closest to center" match.

Finally----we have a solid date Saturday April 8th, 2017

We set up a crude website where we plan on putting more information and pictures of the event and have entry form at http://wisconsinairpistol.com

So far we have some highly skilled entries and several people who have never shot in an air pistol match before.  We intend to make this fun for everyone!  Do not forget about the closest to the center contest that will be going on at the same time!

Chip;

How many entrants so far ?
Hope we have a good turn out.
Did you receive my payment cause it has not cleared the bank yet, want to make sure you received it ?
When shooting the sectional in Kenosha this weekend, found out that the Beloit indoor 2700 is the same weekend.
No worries, will be there with you on Saturday and will go to Beloit on Sunday.

See you soon;

Yes, I received your check.  Not sure when Bloomer will cash.  If I do not count all the people who said they are coming that I do not yet have entires for, I have 18.  If all the people sign up that say they will I am north of 50.  There will be free fried chicken and other goodies to eat.  You will have to buy pop from the club.  I did receive the SIUS unit.  Works as advertised.  I am experimenting with target backers to make sure we get nice round holes.  Currently best result is when I paste cut up cereal boxes or the boxes that 24 packs of pop/beer come in.  Prizes  will be small engraved Buck knives.  So far I have a few loaner air pistols for people that don't have one.  Have a Daisy, Evo 10e, and a Steyr LP50 for sure.  We MIGHT have some news people there...I am twisting a lot of arms.

Chip,

What kind of relay times are you looking @? Also how many shooters per relay?

Just curious.

I might venture over from NoDak.

Lots of promises, but few additional entries.  Paper is going to write an article.  Besides the nice awards we will have fried chicken, etc. included in the $8 entry fee.  People will have to buy pop/water as the club sells that, but people that come will have a great time.

For novice shooters we will have some loaner pistols and I have pellets for the novice shooters so there are no others costs for novices.

(Unless they want to pay $2 to enter the closest to the center side match.)

I had a few people ask how I could run a match for only $8.  I am funding most of the costs to build interest in air pistol...so don't "beat up" your local clubs on entry fees for matches.  This is strictly an "advertising cost" to generate interest.

I stopping and visited with a couple of local newspapers and local TV.  They did not kick me out, so we shall see.  Everything looks good.  We are going to have a dry run this coming Saturday to make sure everything will work.  Food has been ordered and I am picking up the engraved knifes this week.

Bloomer Air 2017 A Success

Post by ChipEck on 4/9/2017, 10:41 am

Well, match is done. From my perspective it was a success. I had a couple shooters ask if this was going to be a monthly event.  I don't have that much energy...but nice to know it excited some shooters.

Shooters seemed to like the engraved Buck knives, 23 shooters, several women and eight new shooters and juniors. Clarence Perkins was the top scorer with a 538. As a joke I handed him the 1st place Men's Senior knife. If I would have had a camera it would have been perfect.:-). Clarence took it well and he was the Mens overall champion. Jerry was nice enough to bring a collection of his international medals. I think the juniors thought that was neat. We also let the juniors and novices shoot on additional relays for fun if they wanted to and many took us up on the offer. A big thank you for all who attended!

Good luck to everyone shooting in Wisconsin State Indoor Bullseye Match this weekend!  This means you CP and JR.

Thanks Chip and Jerry for putting on a good match.
Everything ran smoothly.
The best thing is that there were no incidents, all shooters had good muzzle awareness which made it a safe match.
I felt that the majority of the shooters showed interest and am aware of at least one lady novice shooter is already thinking of purchasing an air pistol.
The fried chicken was dang good.

Chip, since you approached from behind me with the award it would be easy to assume that I was a senior from all the silver hair Smile

I hope people will get involved and train to shoot better.
All the shooting sports that I have been involved in is an individual accomplishment/achievement.
Not out there to out score other shooters.
I look at it as to train and be the best that I can be.
The scores; let the chips fall as they may.
As long as you did the best you could that day you could be the winner or last place, who cares.
There is always tomorrow.

Great match Chip!

Had three generations of my family there shooting. A dream come true for me. They're all hoping to be able to do this again.

I'd also like to put out a word of thanks to Judy and Clyde who spent the whole day helping and running the kitchen and to Jerry Wilder who lent his experienced help in setting up and running the match.
