Hello Virginia shooters moving to Haymarket,VA Monday. I know that area has some clubs and PA and MD aren't too far away. Hope to run into people at matches.

I use to pop up to Ft Meade for matches. Lets see that was only 42 years ago. Probably nothing has changed. It is an Army base. Smile I was stationed in Cameron Station (Alexandria) and that was the closest place.

You'll be a little ways away from most everything but NRA HQ and Fairfax Rod and Gun.  I would suggest starting out by stopping by NRA HQ on a Monday night and checking out the Metropolitan Pistol League.  The shooters there can get you pointed in the right directions for matches.  Another great source of info is:

Mid-Atlantic Region Conventional Pistol Matches

Right now it is showing last year's events, but you can get an idea of the schedules and a list of contacts.  Fairfax Rod and Gun has a site:

Fairfax Rod & Gun, Inc.

They'll start posting their upcoming matches in the spring.  Be sure to reserve a spot with them ahead of time, if you plan to attend one of their matches.  This will get you a spot and ensure you can get through the gate on match day.

Although it will be a longer drive, I must also mention the Maryland matches and leagues at:

Twelfth Precinct Pistol and Archery
Anne Arundel Fish and Game Association

They both have matches and leagues are held at 12th on Wednesday evenings and Saturday mornings and AAFG on Thursday at noon and either Sat or Sun morning.  I don't remember now, which it is.  If you go the league at the 12th, mention my name to George Petricko and he will let you shoot your first league session for free and then blame me for it.

Hmm. Haymarket is a bit of a haul from Fairfax, VA (where the NRA HQ Range is located), but I think it's worth it for the Monday night Metropolitan Pistol .22 Bullseye League - we shoot the full distances (50yd, 25yd) indoors on turning targets on Monday evenings in four relays from 6PM - 9PM; shooters are guaranteed a place to shoot if they arrive by 8PM (we'll run another relay if necessary).

We're currently 'off' for the holidays, but will be back on the 9th, and we'll meet every Monday (except holidays) until early May of 2017.

I also highly recommend Fairfax Rod & Gun Club's matches (located in Manassas), and I think the Arlington-Fairfax Izaak Walton League of America (located in Centreville, near where I live) is also doing something Bullseye-related.

There are also air pistol and freepistol matches in the area: Fairfax Rod & Gun Club hosts an air pistol match on the 2nd Saturday of the month each month between November and March (and will run an outdoor freepistol match in the afternoon if it is warm enough); Twelfth Precinct (in Harwood, MD) does the same for the 3rd Sunday of the month.

Range is roughly 20 miles away from me.  I actually stopped by there last week....Nicest indoor range i've seen.
I plan on shooting Jan 9

Cool beans, see you there; my team has Range Duty that night, so I'll be running the show all night. I'm the team captain of Stars & Stripes; there are six teams in the league, everyone shoots on a team, teams rotate in terms of Range Duty and the other teams they're competing against that week - http://metropistol.org/. It's $11 per person to shoot each night; the first relay a person shoots is for-record, any subsequent relays are for fun/practice. Often shooters will shoot their centerfire guns for practice on the later relays.

Shooters shoot a "double National Match Course" with two 10-shot/10-minute slowfire strings on one target at 50 yards, four 5-shot/20-second timed fire strings on one target at 25 yards, and four 5-shot/10-second rapid fire strings on one target at 25 yards. Targets are self-scored/self-reported, honor-system applies. The league uses the handicap system anyways - scores get normalized and weighed against the previous three-week average; the top four handicap scores on a team make up the team score. Easy as pie.

Another nice indoor range is Elite Shooting Sports in Manassas, though they don't host precision pistol matches. Their equipment is similar to the NRA, though I think the NRA has a nicer atmosphere (and more attentive range personnel). ESS also has a 100yd indoor rifle-only range.
