Metallic sights? Empty Metallic sights?

Post by orpheoet Mon Jan 02, 2017 9:42 am

Just curious, does anyone know if this is a thing anymore? I suspect not. I've been shooting Expert scores since last March indoors(4 matches I think, maybe 5) and my classification hasn't changed from Sharpshooter. I'm sure the scores were sent in as Metallic. It's nice sweeping the Sharpshooter class, but I feel like I'm cheating now.

You can enter in any class above your classification, excepting HM.

Personally I find the Irons more challenging.I really wanted to see how far I could get with them. If there is no more Metallic I'll just use them in open for improvement with whatever classification I'm in.

In emailed the NRA today. My son nor I have received a classification. We had shot enough by September or October to get a card. I even checked the website lookup page with my NRA number. Nothing. Anyone know why?

You need 360 shots fired in approved or registered matches that are sent in to the NRA. Check with the match directors that your scores were sent in.

What Ghillieman said.

You need 360 shots fired for each division (Production, Metallic or Open) in either indoor or outdoor to receive a classification. So, I guess there are a total of six possible classification cards for Precision Pistol. The match has to be an NRA Approved or Registered Tournament.  Scores are for the total shots fired during that Tournament. Scores should be posted under the highest classification shot for that Tournament (If you shoot Open .22, Production CF and Metallic .45), depending on the specific conditions in the match program, all those individual matches may be rolled into Open). [The competitors aggregate will be determined by the highest division they compete in, in the order listed below: Open, Metallic, Production Division(s), Open being the highest, and Production Division being the lowest.]

Sometimes matches are said to be NRA, but they are only using the rules and targets, not paying the NRA match fees nor sending in the scores.  Sometimes the NRA gets behind in entering scores (although this seems like a pretty long lag).

In addition, I can imagine that even with or without an NRA number, there could be other issues.  Without an NRA number, a slight difference in how the name was written can cause issues.  Even with an NRA number, slight mistakes or expiration may be an issue?

when I started, after I had fired enough matches and or scoring shots, it took more than a couple of months to get a classification card in the mail. They're slow. But probably not from lack of trying. This sport has many shooters.

I emailed the NRA Monday and was pleasantly surprised to get a quick reply.  It seems that my scores haven't been submitted by 2 different match directors.  I've only had one match submitted to the NRA so I don't have enough shots without them.  I'll ask them to try to submit the past scores or at least the next match.  That should give me enough to get a card.  I appreciate the match directors volunteering their time and in no way would want to complain to them about it, so I'll just politely ask them to check into it.

Lightfoot,

You may find out that the other matches where your scores were not turned in were not formally NRA sanctioned matches.  They must be approved or registered matches, or a part of an approved league. League scores are not turned in until the end of the league, and I think they are an average and the number of shots.

Ron, check out the Facebook group Texas Precision Pistol Network. We started early developing a state team, are you going to Perry for the pistol phase?

Dan,

I sent you a PM.  I am not a facebook member, but I did to a search and was unable to find anything for Texas Precision Pistol Network.

For everyone's info.  The NRA Pistol Committee recommended retaining the Metallic Division within Precision Pistol.  The Production Division was not retained due to very low number of competitors with classifications and few matches offering the Production Division.  The NRA Board of Directors met this past weekend and approved the rule changes.  Expect Competitions to post updated rules in the coming months.

Production Division might have been more popular, except for one thing:  there are virtually no 22's that meet the requirements, except revolvers. So if a competitor used a metallic sight 22, and production guns for cf and 45, his classification would be in metallic, according to the rules.

Including Camp Perry.

I don't know why the NRA would expect match directors to rewrite their spreadsheets to include new divisions that aren't even going to be offered at the Nationals.

Unfortunately I think the NRA is loosing focus on the competitive side of gun owners, if it's not asking for money for political crap or selling insurance, they don't care. I got my distinguished revolver at Perry, which is screwed up this year, all I got was the ribbon badge no hat pin or certificate for my wall like President 100, distinguished service pistol, indoor sectional now takes them 10 months to get out results, I came in third in my class got NRA bucks, who cares, I like the metals I can't tell my grandkids I got 3 NRA bucks for working hard, I think it's time to shake the hell out of the NRA and CMP and let them know what their purpose is and not to become some political money hunger bastards, sorry for my language.

I saw on the NRA Shooter Classification Lookup that I am finally Expert Metallic Sights. Usually the new card shows up quickly, nothing yet. I'm glad they're keeping it going. Thanks for all the info.
