Magnetospeed Chrongraph ? Empty Magnetospeed Chrongraph ?

Does anyone have any experience with this?  I like the concept that it doesn't rely on light, and attaches to the barrel. This should let me use it at indoor ranges (if it works).

It works great on rifles, not semi auto handguns unless you have a silencer attached or a rail for a laser or light like the Glock in the picture.  I was close to buying one for my rifles but went with a LabRadar which works with all my guns.  There is a thread on the LabRadar on this site I'll post a link if I can find it.

Found it:

Thx Dave!  I would want to use it only with pistols, having some serious "fun" with the 32 long reloads as we speak, but would also want it work with a 1911 frame.

Well, I read several reviews.  I feel like the high school kid with his 1st (free) marajuana cigarette. (lol)

When I was thinking of a Chrono, I checked Midway, about $100.  However, not feasible indoors due to setup and lighting.

Then the Magnetospeed.  Base unit $170. Ok, whats $70.

However, after a couple reviews i realize their V3 model is better, but nearly $400!  Darn.

Then i realize it won't really work well with pistols....crap.

BUT  The LabRadar does. Indoors, Easy set up, Doesn't need to be past the firing line, etc.   Of course,  now it's $600 (LOL).

I'm hooked!

Dave, how do you feel about it now after nearly a year with it!

First - it's expensive!  Yes I would do it again.  I've used it quite a bit, I do a lot of load development for my rifles, and I was working on some 9MM loads and I have a 38 Super coming, so yes I get some use out of it.  I also have several friends that have ransom rests and when they go out to the range they call me and I bring the LabRadar too.  Doing RR and chrono work at the same time is awesome!

Here is why I purchased it = It was a real hassle waiting for the range to go safe and then holding everyone up while I set up or took down my old chrono.  Also if you have ever tried to chrono and ransom rest at the same time - you WILL eventually shoot some part of it and this isn't an issue with the LaRadar.  The final kicker which hasn't happened yet is the range I use for rifle work is trying to ban ANYTHING down range including chronos.

If I'm just doing chrono work I can set up shoot and take down and never have to stop the line, you don't need an actual target downrange, just shoot at the same spot in the berm or backer.

It's a lot of money to be sitting around when you're not using it.

Dave, I agree.  At the indoor range where i shoot they wouldn't close the range for me to set up a normal chrono (or at least I wouldn't ask them).  Plus, I understand indoor light can be an issue.

In any event, I just ordered a LabRadar.  I recently purchased a Ransom Rest, haven't used it yet, but now won't feel so bad asking my LGS to help me on some loads for a new 9mm and 45 he is making for me, since I figure he will want to borrow it:)

I mounted my tripod on a round wooden disc I bought at Home depot and put 5 caster wheels on the bottom and push it out 10 foot in front of my station with a 10 foot 3 piece PVC pipe..  It also required the IR Light Bar to work.   I bought the Sport model of the unit you asked about but it only worked on some guns due to barrel configuration.  I now have a LabRadar and it is great.
