Camp Perry Barracks Empty Camp Perry Barracks

Post by james r chapman Mon Feb 13, 2017 7:32 am

So with theCMP/NRA split, I tried to find lodging for July 1-2 in Port Clinton . The 4th of July weekend!!!

Lol, isn't going to happen!

What's the opinion on the Barracks for 2 days stay.

I'm only 1 1/2 hrs away, so driving daily is also an option.

Camp Perry Barracks Empty Re: Camp Perry Barracks

I stayed in the barracks many times before they built the RV park, which is where I stayed since.

Nothing wrong with them, they were very crowded during rifle CMP week every bunk taken. They are open squad bays, with the showers/toilets on the end. They assign you a bed, but chances are, someone will have that one, its pretty much find an empty bunk. They weren't air conditioned, but I think they are now. There is a locker for each bed, and a plug in between each bunk. During NRA week, they were pretty empty, I would find an area that was lightly populated, I liked the upstairs, which sometimes I would have the whole place to myself, as most didn't like the stairs, and would move downstairs after CMP week.

They built new barracks, I never stayed in them, but friends who have, say they are cubicles, with a fridge, four bunks in each. If you get assigned to the new barracks, you could get three others together and have shooters you know.

Some 13-14 years ago, I stayed in the barracks two separate nights because of housing logistics.  The first one was in with other civilians.  People in and out at all times of the night, talking going on, no curfew, etc.

The second night, I bunked with the Air Force Team where I had several friends and contacts and who had a bay to themselves. Lights out at 9 or so, all quiet 30 minutes afterwards. Nice, quiet, respectful.

At that time, no AC, which was a bit tough. I think that has changed.

Earplugs are a necessity for sleeping.  25 men in a bay, with all the snoring, coughing, farting and other noises you could want.  That being said, it's air conditioned and you don't have to go outside to use the latrine. Oh, and no cell phone signal inside the building, could be a plus or a minus, depending on how you look at it.

I only have two years experience at Perry and have stayed in the barracks both years. I plan on staying there again this year. While yes, there can be a bit of noise (I am one of the snorers), they run a large fan in each wing for white noise which helps take the edge off.
