Good morning from Ohio. I'm just getting my feet wet in bullseye and am looking for some good reading on
a) 1911 building. I'm fascinated how these pistols work and the accuracy that can be brought out by a competent pistolsmith.
b) the fundamentals of bullseye style shooting. The basics, how to stand, proper sight usage, trigger control, ect.

Thank you for any suggestions.

The Colt .45 Automatic: A Shop Manual by Jerry Kuhnhausen Volumes 1 and 2 (or books 1 and 2)

And Gil Hebard wrote or put together a book called Pistol Shooters Treasury.

Those will help a lot.

I have nothing to offer for 1911 building, but for the fundamentals, head over to http://www.bullseyepistol.com/ ; it has a lot of great articles and the classic USAMU Guide.

If you prefer dead trees, I recommend "Competitive Pistol Shooting" by Laslo Antal. It focuses on the ISSF / International events, but the fundamentals are the same and it would cover what you are looking for. I bought a lot of used shooting books from AbeBooks.com and this is one of the better ones.

Best bullseye reading I've found (a series of 12 articles):

I second all the above. The Kuhnhausen books are fantastic. I would also recommend the AGI 1911 videos if your serious about building one. If your just looking for basic smiting, the Ed Brown bench manual is okay.

For shooting, I like the AMU manual the best. The Ed Hall series is also great. The bullseye encyclopedia and this forum are also fantastic resources. They have helped me tremendously. I especially liked an article by Ron Steinbrecher for the basics.
